About

ORLEANS IN CONCERT:

Veteran pop-rockers Orleans have pleased generations of fans with their lush vocal harmonies, lockstep guitar leads, and funky keyboards. In concert the band brings their classic sounds to life, treating fans to smile-inducing vibes that transport them straight back to the sunny ‘70s. As audiences rock out to the nostalgic hits, each member masterfully nails the instrumental breakdowns and catchy choruses of favorites like “Still the One”, “Dance with Me”, and “Love Takes Time”. Orleans remains one of the most fun and refreshing bands from the ‘70s, and ticket buyers are encouraged to bring an 8-track mentality as they sing along to their groovy tunes on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

When he decided to form his own group in 1971, in-demand songwriter and touring musician John Hall (guitar/vocals) contacted former bandmate Wells Kelly (piano/percussion). Kelly reached out to long-time friend Larry Hoppen (guitar), who in turn brought his 17-year-old brother Lance (bass) on board. This lineup scored the 1975 hit “Dance with Me” before adding full-time drummer Jerry Marotta in 1976. Shortly thereafter Orleans released their trademark hit “Still the One”, which cemented the group as pop-rock royalty overnight. Unfortunately, conflicting personalities in the band led John Hall to leave the group in 1977 for a solo career. The remaining members soldiered on, once again climbing the charts in 1979 with the hit “Love Takes Time”. Though the lineup was constantly in flux throughout the early ‘80s, the original members were reunited by the time of Kelly’s untimely death in 1986. The group continued to tour and record in the ensuing decades, taking breaks for a group hiatus from 1997-2001 and Hall’s stint in Congress from 2007-2011. Since his term in office, Hall has brought his inimitable singing and playing back into the fold, sparking excitement among Orleans fans around the globe.

Great Show In Spite of Difficult Circumstances

by pmstephens on 10/13/21Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

We were looking forward to seeing Poco and Pure Prairie League, but Firefall gave a great show, considering they stepped in at the last minute. Orleans was fantastic! Free, well lit parking one block away was a big plus. On the negative side, please consider replacing the seats with bigger and more comfortable ones.

    Some technical difficulties

by MS on 10/13/21Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

The music mixing was a bit odd. The mix changed several times during both shows. I have great respect for the members of the bands touring at their ages. Some key members of the bands were missing, so the sound wasn’t as we know them from their recordings. Poco didn’t play due to illness. That was a bummer too.

    Ultimate 70’s Tour Concert review

by Debbi on 10/13/21Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

We were disappointed that 2 of the 3 groups we hoped to see had to back out, but understand the reasons why. Orleans and Firefall were very enjoyable.

Venue was great Firefall okay Orleans horrible

by Dave on 10/13/21Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

It was nothing close to the original bill with Poco and Pure Prarie League. Firefall was a decent fill in but Orleans very disappointing performance.

Nostalgic of better times and better music.

by Mg on 10/13/21Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

Amazing how guys in their mid 70’s can continue to wow a crowd with superb musicianship and beautifully crafted songs. Loved every minute. Only regret was losing Poco and Pure Prairie League from the lineup.

Potentially a good show but unfortuntately not quite

by Iwasthere on 10/13/21Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

3 great bands from the '70s that could have been a great show. 1. Pure Prairie League had to drop-out due to an illness - disappointing but it happens 2. No one introduced either band - sorry but having bands of this caliber wander out to no intro feels like a high school talent show and does nothing to create audience energy and anticipation. 3. The audio was poor throughout the entire show. During Firefall's performance, it was barely acceptable, but Orleans had multiple feedback events. During both shows, solos were lost and the mix was awful. Orleans commented about 'gremlins' in the system that night, and it showed. Felt like there was no sound check and the house engineer was always behind. 4. The house was about 1/3 sold, and this most likely affected both band's level of excitement. It might have been a good idea to invite the audience down to the front after a certain point and give the bands what felt like some energy for their performances. 5. The performances: Firefall finally hit something that resembled a stride on their last song. Orleans seemed to be struggling to keep it together most of the way through their set - really hard to see as I know how talented these guys are. 6. The Lynn Auditorium continues to be a great place to see live performances. It's intimate, the staff is always friendly, the building is clean, the prices are great for tix and concessions, and free parking too!

Orleans was great. Our seats very very good. Parking bad.

Everything was wonderful except parking. The pay lot was full. We drove around a long time to find a spot and had to worry about being towed.
