CAROLINE ROSE IN CONCERT:
Singer-songwriter Caroline Rose's homespun brand of Americana is making her one of folk music's most buzzed-about new acts. The Long Island native pens socially-conscious tunes that depict the haunts of her small working-class hometown and take on issues of growth and adulthood. Her unique textured arrangements blend blues, rock, bluegrass, and country to arrive at a sound that perfectly showcases her smoky, Joni Mitchell-esque voice. In concert she performs with her longtime musical partner Jer Coons, as well as guitarist Brett Lanier and bassist Pat Melvin. Together the quartet delivers soulful performances that range from pulsating ("Blood On Your Bootheels") to haunting ("Petrified Elizabeth") to quirky ("Red Bikini Waltz"). The group's dynamic and exhilarating live shows treat ticket buyers to a hearty helping of rootsy music that sticks to the ribs, leaving them grinning and hungry for more.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Vermont-based folk singer Caroline Rose grew up in a small blue collar town in Long Island, NY. Although she dabbled in the piano and guitar as a teenager, she didn't consider music as a career until her early twenties. After studying architecture on a full scholarship at Wellesley College she held several different odd jobs, including stints at a cider distillery, a grocery store, and a farm, before she moved to Vermont and started writing songs and playing small club shows. She eventually met multi-instrumentalist Jer Coons, who produced her 2013 debut album America Religious. That collection of Americana folk tunes -- which Rose and Coons recorded during a cross country road trip -- earned her a deal with Nashville label Little Hi! Records. In 2014 she released her sophomore album I Will Not Be Afraid before finishing out the year with a standout performance at Americana Music Festival and a nationwide tour with folk duo Shovels & Rope.
Best live show I've ever seen. Uncle Carol never disappoints.
I knew it would be a great experience but it went beyond my expectations. They put on a beautiful show and I am so glad to have seen them live.
I have been a fan of Carline Rose since her first album. This is my 2nd time seeing her after the Superstar tour and this show...well...if you like the sound of an in-tune wailing cat. This is the show to see.
her new album is a bit sadder than her old stuff so just be prepared for that, but she sounds exactly like she does recorded as in real life, great band, and set. Sound at 9:30 club always on point!
I enjoyed the eclectic mix of local music covering a wide array of genres, though I felt bad for the somewhat low turnout. Then again, it was a Sunday afternoon in the fall when there a lot of things to compete with such an event, especially on a beautiful day. The crowd was a bit incestuous, with everybody already seeming to know each other, which might make a stranger feel a little out of place. Bar service was fine, though it always seemed that you were interrupting a conversation they were having with a coworker or a "regular". Finally, for an even lasting quite a few hours, I had assumed (and hoped) that there would be some food options (some of the sponsors were food vendors, but it turned out that they were only providing services for the artists). There are some good places near the venue that have great food, but, if you want to hang out at the show, you went hungry. Still, I enjoyed being exposed to some new music, which was the point, after all.
Caroline is funny, so talented and entertaining. The crowd was thoroughly entertained and loved every minute of her show. I can't wait to see her again.
First, Wonder Bar is a great venue. We arrived early for “yappie hour”, which is essentially an out door dog park with a tiki bar. If you like dogs, this is a hoot. If you are in need of some infectious happiness, grab a drink and spend an hour with happy dogs and their happy owners. Caroline Rose is great; very charismatic. The band is tight, and the tunes are well crafted with great hooks and attitude. There are several excellent pop songs (maybe “alt pop”?) on the loner album. It was a really fun set of music. If the band can crank out another album like Loner, they should be able to make the jump to headlining some larger venues. Either way, I’ll definitely go see this band again.
This was my first concert for Caroline Rose and honestly I am very satisfied she was very entertaining and enthusiastic with her performance. I'm really looking forward to what else she has to offer. Thanks for the great show Caroline and the rest of the band :)
This is the second time I saw Caroline and the energy level were both equally high. Her last years album “Loner” was one of my favorites of the year. It’s hard to tell who was having more fun between the performers or the audience, but who cares. Caroline brought out a couple new songs so I hope we won’t have to wait too long for her next album. Everyone should experience her band.
I see a lot of musical performers and DJ's and I'm glad that Caroline and her band lived up to the wonderful album that they put out. I went with my wife to see her in Albany, NY and we had a fantastic time as did everyone else. We also saw "The Greeting Committee" who were excellent as well as 'Super Organism" who although are good producers cannot match the experience when seeing them live yet. If Caroline comes to back to NY in the summer next year or Florida during the winter I'm going to see her perform again as long as it isn't too far from where I frequent and I'm free.
