About

These classically-trained musicians have definitely found their groove, and it lies somewhere in between rock and Rachmaninoff. Jon Schmidt (piano), Steven Sharp Nelson (cello) Paul Anderson (production, videography) and Al Van Der Beek (production, songwriting), a.k.a. The Piano Guys, are more than just a musical act, they are a multi-media production team. Through innovative musical composition, cutting-edge technology, and a dash of humor, The Piano Guys produce entertaining videos (oftentimes shot in breathtaking locales) of themselves performing their own rendition of popular songs, classical compositions, movie soundtracks and more—at times enlisting the help of talented guest vocalists. With YouTube as their portal, their videos have received hundreds of millions of views—pretty impressive for a fun-loving crew whose original intent was merely to showcase the instruments for sale at Anderson’s small piano shop. Initially shocked by their overwhelming success, they’re now making the most of their time in the spotlight by embarking on a mission to “make a positive impact in the lives of people all over the world.”  Among their most widely viewed videos is “Cello Wars (Star Wars Parody) Lightsaber Duel,” “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets,” and their covers of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and Coldplay’s “Paradise.”  When The Piano Guys announced that a LIVE concert tour was in the works, eager fans anticipated the chance to buy tickets to what promises to be a stunning onstage spectacle of sight and sound.

    Uplifting Show

by SMG on 4/22/24Meridian Hall - Toronto

The Piano Guys are so talented and inspiring! They performed for almost three hours minus a roughly twenty minute intermission. It was a beautifully presented show. It was great performance to bring school age kids as well.

Too much talking - not enough music!

by Sarah on 4/21/24Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

I saw The Piano Guys at Red Rocks in 2017 and was blown away! When they were coming to a nearby town in 2024, I was excited to take my husband to see them since he was unable to join us in 2017. Though I do remember the performers giving a little history of the group’s formation and experiences, I don’t think much of it was necessary. Also, many of the stories, jokes, etc. were exactly the same as the 2017 show! You’d think that they’d be able to come up with some new stuff in 7 years! I was also taken aback by the extreme religious overtones of the show. Their music transcends religion and appeals to people from many different backgrounds. I’m sure that there were a number of audience members turned off by the overwhelming religious references. I was also surprised by the overuse of video and backup music tracks used during the show. I felt like I could have had a similar experience just watching some YouTube videos!

    Amazing & Uplifting!

by Meghan on 4/21/24Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Jon & Steven are truly exceptional musicians combing classical, pop, and their ow(n compositions into a unique musical experience. If you have not had the opportunity to see them perform, hopefully they will return in the future. We are lucky to be able to see them again, next month in Colorado!

    All the feels

by Archietrish on 4/21/24Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

I'd long been a fan of the Piano Guys' videos but this was the first time to see them in concert. I wasn't sure how they'd capture that same sense of grandeur that the videos bring with their "out of the concert hall"settings. I was delighted and astonished however by the visual component of the show at Shea's which beautifully matched the brilliance of the performers' musical abilities. The show had us cheering, laughing, crying and left our hearts full.
