Golson has an amazing trio that backs him up. His play personally was memorable, and the opportunities he gives the rest of the band to play symbolizes a passing of the torch. Between songs Golson would share some of his fondest memories from his life as a jazz artist. All in all, a very memorable performance.

I bought tickets based on the Dispatch story about Aaron Diehl and as a surprise for my husband. The entire event was a surprise for both of us. The joy with which Aaron plays was fully complemented by the joy expressed by Reggie Jackson on the drums. The music danced and cavorted and played along the ceiling and walls of the unique Lincoln Theater; the notes flowed from piano to bass to drum to sax like fast water from stone to stone, splashing up and sparkling to reflect the touch of the musicians. Bennie Goldson was gracious toward the young, allowed them to have the spotlight, and gave us the gift of stories from his past. The evening felt like an intimate jam session in my uncle's living room with extraordinary talent at the center.
