About

Kings of Leon mark their return to the North American arena circuit for the first time in more than two years with their 2014 Mechanical Bull Tour, featuring the added bonus of up-and-coming blues whiz Gary Clark, Jr. in the opening slot. The trek is named for the southern rockers' new album, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album chart after its release in September 2013.

A family affair, Kings of Leon is frontman Caleb Followill, his older brother Nathan on drums, little brother Jared on bass, and their first cousin Michael Followill on guitar. The band formed after Michael and Jared moved to Nashville around the turn of the century, and by 2002 the record labels were taking notice of the two older siblings. While their eventual label RCA Records wanted to recruit other musicians to play with Caleb and Nathan, the brothers insisted that Michael and Jared round out their band.

The band emerged with their first EP, Holy Roller Novocaine, and album, Youth & Young Manhood, in 2003, and both were noted for their retro, psychedelic take on raw southern rock. The band had a retro look to match, and European audiences were fast to adopt the scruffy, long-haired group. By the time the band's second album, 2004's Aha Shake Heartbreak, was released overseas, the band were a bona fide sensation in Europe. The album's sound  was also a breakthrough in the US, where it hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

With the release of Kings of Leon's fourth album, 2008's Only By the Night, the Followills solidified their standing as stars in their home country. The album went Platinum in the US and featured their biggest hit, "Sex on Fire."

The foursome stayed busy in 2013 selling many tickets to an extensive overseas tour, releasing a new album, and appearing at North American festivals.

    Underwhelming

Awesome band. But you can feel they’re playing under obligation. Sound A+. Musicianship A+. Performance D- My guess playing the same songs for years gets monotonous.

    *edit*...and Nathan!

    by hellojenny on 12/9/23

...and, of course, I adore Nathan, too. How could I forget my favourite drummer?!

    My Absolute FAVOURITE!!!!

    by hellojenny on 12/9/23

I am an oldschool KoL fan and have seen them a few times now, both in the UK and in Canada, and each time I am even more excited than the last! The music speaks for itself, and they are just as good, if not better (if that's even possible?) live. I'm mesmerized watching the energy between Caleb, Jared, Matthew and Jared (and whoever is backing that tour!) I love being in the pit; it's the best experience interacting with like-minded KoL fans and getting an up-close experience. I swear, I feel like an added part of the experience is getting a smile or eye contact from one of the guys! Can't wait for them to come back to Canada... I've been waiting (impatiently) for their return. xo

    Best EVER

    by S. E. on 5/30/23

We obviously had to be in the pit every time we see them and it is always worth it! I’ve seen them twice now and both time we got one of Nathan’s drum sticks. This is the best band you could ever see live. Especially if you are like me and love every song they have ever done! They are so good live!! So tasteful!

    Good music Bad Performance

    by A. R. on 3/27/23

I love KoL music but their performance was wack! I found myself sitting throughout the entire concert never once standing for a song. They seemed bummed out and tired. The lead singer just stood there and didn’t walk around the stage or anything.

Saw KOL front row in CT, what an incredible experience! They really put on a good show, and they sound the same live as they do in their recorded songs. Am waiting for them to tour again!! So phenomenal couldn’t recommend more.

    Felt a great connection

    by Kensey Lewis on 11/17/21

I got to see KOL live for my first time back in 2017 which was literally incredible. I didnt have close seats but I didnt care. I was just blessed to be able to go. This year I was even more blessed to have pit tickets, first time ever in a pit was literslly life changing. I got to stand center stage just a few rows back and literally couldnt take my eyes off of Caleb. It was a dream come true! I feel like he noticed me in the crowd a few times! I couldn't bring myself to pull out my phone and record anything, I just had to love in the moment and I feel like the band really appreciates that. Luckly my sisters got some good videos for me. Cold War Kids also rocked and now I have new tunes to jam too. I will always be grateful for KOL they have been so important to me since I was introduced to them by my older sister. Their music and story will always hold a special ppace in my heart.
