About

Chilliwack In Concert

With their string of hits through the 1970s and ‘80s, Chilliwack were responsible for some of the most memorable and melodic songs of the era. They also became part of the foundation for Canadian popular music, with smashes like "Baby Blue," "Fly at Night," and "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" all helping to ensure the nation's musical artists had a regular home on their own airwaves.

Though vitally important as a landmark act of the early "Can-Con" era, Chilliwack is very much part of the present, too. Bill Henderson is still at the helm more than five decades after the band's origins in Vancouver's bustling rock scene of the ‘60s.

Seeking a fresh start after the collapse of local favourites The Collectors, Henderson founded Chilliwack in 1970. By 1972, they were making an impact on both sides of the border with songs like "Lonesome Mary," the first of many singles that cracked Billboard's Top 100. The smooth, sultry rocker "Crazy Talk" and more country-influenced "Raino" earned them further exposure.

Henderson and his group hit their apex in the early ‘80s with the release of "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)," an ingenious mix of hard rock, pure pop, and doo-wop that showcased Henderson's vocal harmonies with the band's drummer and co-vocalist Brian MacLeod. A No. 1 single at home that also reached No. 22 in the U.S., it established Chilliwack as Canada's preeminent hit-makers. In 1982, the band extended the winning streak with their tenth album ‘Opus X' and "Whatcha Gonna Do," another top 10 single in Canada.

Though lineup changes and record company problems led to the end of Chilliwack's original run in 1988, Henderson's music career continued to thrive thanks to his participation in UHF, a Canadian folk-rock supergroup he formed with Shari Ulrich and Roy Forbes.

The demand for Chilliwack was so high that Henderson launched a new version of the band in 1997. Released in 2003, ‘There and Back – Live' is a testament to Chilliwack's renewed vitality. One of Canada's most iconic musical acts remains an audience favorite thanks to Henderson's indefatigable energy as the frontman. He gets invaluable support from such talented players as his brother Ed Henderson on guitars and background vocals, and drummer Jerry Adolphe, a part of the Chilliwack story since 1984.

    Audience shows no respect.

by rude, rude, rude on 3/4/24Great Canadian Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

Chilliwack had great energy and it was wonderful to hear the songs again! Bill is a great storyteller in song and in words. Glad to see that Ed and other members got to shine too. However, the some of the audience showed little respect for the band or the rest of the audience. When did it become acceptable to enter a venue and clumsily find your seat during a song because you were late? Why aren't the ushers keeping people back until the gap between songs and then seating late comers. And audience, you can wait until the intermission (if there is one) to get another drink. Waiting will not kill you, and the people sitting around you will appreciate not being disturbed. It seemed as well that a few audience members had exceeded appropriate limits in alcohol consumption and were disruptive. Why were they not removed by security? All in all, a great night partly spoiled by rude behavior. Not what I had expected from the venue.

    Still Rockin’

by Axel on 3/4/24Great Canadian Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

Seeing Chilliwack, live, in concert, was a an awesome experience, especially given the smaller venue (there are no bad seats). Bill came across like a seasoned artist, teasing the crowd with bits of nostalgia, like playing with the Doors, Albert King, etc. The crowd, albeit older, was completely engaged. Thanks to the four men in a rock ‘n roll band… keep rockin’!

    Great Show

by Robnoot on 1/3/24Century Casino - Edmonton

Seen them twice now, about a year apart. They put on a good show, with great guitar work and decent vocals. Awesome that the main two guys are still around and rocking. So many older bands are touring now without any original members, which sucks. My only complaint is that they should mix up the set list a bit. The two shows I saw were identical - great shows, but some variety would help spice it up, keep it fresh.

    Solid Show

by amm63 on 5/9/22Casino Rama Resort - Rama

I really enjoyed seeing Streetheart and Chilliwack. Their songs brought back great memories. You could really tell that they put their hearts into the show…even though some of the high notes were a stretch. It was good value for the money and we all had a great time.

Four Men In A Rock’n’Roll Band: Classic Stuff

by MusicMaestro on 5/9/22Casino Rama Resort - Rama

Bill Henderson is among the best rock/pop songwriters, musicians, and singers that Canada has ever produced. And his brother Ed and the other band members are excellent complements to Bill’s virtuosity. A fantastic concert from start to finish, with Streetheart kicking some butt too as the opening act.

I went to see Streetheart was disappointed it wasn’t original singer but still good. Now Chilliwack for a 77 years old guy he did well loved it. But the encore sucked. Thought they woulda ended the night better
