About

Lane 8 on Tour

When you go to a Lane 8 concert, expect to tuck your phones away and be fully immersed in the experience. Daniel Goldstein, the man behind the moniker, is determined to bring community and carefreeness back into dance clubs with his dreamy, melodic house music. After finding a wider audience when he signed to Above & Beyond's label Anjunadeep in 2013, the DJ and producer took his career into his own hands, creating an event series called This Never Happened. At each show, attendees are not allowed to take photos or videos. Phone cameras are covered with branded This Never Happened tape when you enter the venue to prevent any temptation of capturing a digital memory. For Goldstein, this is a way to ensure everyone in the room is committed to connecting with the music — and each other. The idea has proven to be a successful one: Lane 8's 2020 Brightest Lights shows have sold more tickets than any of his previous tours.

Lane 8 in Concert

Lane 8 has gone through a long and fruitful evolution over the years — going all the way back to the days when musician Daniel Goldstein was a kid in California making garage rock with his sister. The young artist expanded his tastes into hip-hop, making beats by the age of 13, before transitioning into dance music as he attended clubs in college. Goldstein started his professional life as a geologist but was able to focus on music full-time when he moved to Germany with his wife. As Lane 8, the DJ and producer crafts smooth, pop-minded house music that gently prods the mind and body into a state of euphoria. After he began uploading his tracks and remixes online, he found a home at Above & Beyond's Anjunadeep label in 2013. Two years later, he released his debut album, Rise, which got a boost from guest vocalists including Matthew Dear, Lulu James, Solomon Grey and Patrick Baker. Next up, Goldstein put his full attention on launching his own label and event concept called This Never Happened. Under this name, he kicked off a series of shows that had one clear rule: No photos or videos allowed. In 2018, he invited Minneapolis synth-pop band Poliça and Australian artist Fractures to join on select tracks for his next album, Little by Little, released on his own label. Goldstein returned two years later with Brightest Lights, bringing back Poliça to collaborate on songs, along with British trio Arctic Lake and L.A.-based musicians Kauf and Nevve.

    Beyond talented

    by Christian Galiani on 7/24/23

I have seen Lane 8 almost 10 times now including his four hour set at Red Rocks, at EDC, and many more. Every time he surpasses my expectations and is easily one of my top 3 favorite artists of all time. He promotes love, acceptance, and happiness and I think anyone of the edge of maybe going to see him should definitely give it a go. <3

    Epically emotional performance

by AmyJoyL on 10/18/22WAMU Theater - Seattle

Lane 8 already has an incredible sound, and to see him live was a dream. His concept of “this never happened” is especially awesome. I love that he asks his fans to be fully present and not use their phones during his show. It’s unfortunate that there were a handful of disrespectful heathers who insisted on taking pictures and videos regardless of the artist’s request. The environment of WaMu Theater is great for these kinds of shows, it’s big and airy enough that it doesn’t get too stuffy usually. I’m glad that he was able to play until almost 0130, that seemed like a really awesomely late hour for their rules, so thank you for that!! Lane 8’s entire show was marvelous, and I recommend it to all.

Amazing music at a less-than-amazing venue

    by Antipode51 on 10/17/22WAMU Theater - Seattle

I don't know if it will ever be possible to give a show at WAMU five stars. Every act was top notch and on top of their game, but nothing can save from the incessant reverb that comes from all of that bass and volume bouncing off the hard surfaces that are not optimized for audio quality in the slightest. It's a shame that big acts have few other places worth playing; I would have loved to have seen this show in a club built for it.
