About

DOYLE BRAMHALL II IN CONCERT:

Doyle Bramhall II plays electric blues with a downhome feel that never fails to connect with audiences looking for a rocking time. In concert Bramhall channels greats like Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan as he squeezes every last bluesy note out of his guitar. Whether he’s laying down originals like “Greenlight Girl” and “Soul Shaker” or tearing into standards like “Going Down” and “Outside Woman Blues”, he always impresses with his emotive playing, powerful vocals, and unique style. With top-notch touring musicians backing him up on stage, Bramhall treats blues lovers to an unforgettrable show full of ace musicianship and fiery fretwork every time he tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after his father -- a drummer for guitar greats Lightnin’ Hopkins and Freddie King -- Doyle Bramhall II was born to play the blues. He landed his first gig in 1984, touring with The Fabulous Thunderbirds at the tender age of 18. After performing in bands and working as a session musician in his native Texas, he recorded his self-titled debut in 1996. His next album, 1999’s Jellycream, earned him recognition from legends like Eric Clapton and Roger Waters. Before stepping in as lead guitarist on Roger Water’s In the Flesh tour, Bramhall recorded with Clapton and B.B. King on their 2000 collaboration Riding with the King. Since then Bramhall has performed with a veritable who’s who of popular musicians, including Elton John, Gregg Allman, Gary Clark, Jr., and Erykah Badu. Between his busy touring and recording schedules, Doyle Bramhall II still manages to thrill fans with his rocking originals and stunning renditions of blues classics in concert.

    Was Expecting More

by LD on 3/9/20Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

Felt like an impromptu jam with a lot of performers not familiar with the material.. lots of roughness on the beginning and ends of songs. The venue was nice, easy to get to seats and plenty of places to get drinks. Drinks are pretty expensive, be ready for $9 to $10 for each beer or drink. Parking is good within a block or so of the venue.

    Excellent show

The show was very diverse. Doyle had a solid blend of talent. It was fun watching them all play together. Kenny Wayne was the highlight of the evening.

    Music đŸ‘đŸ» Management đŸ‘ŽđŸ»

by KAM on 2/19/20Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

We arrived at 7 pm and didn’t get seated until after 8 pm because there was a private auction in the auditorium. The warm up band (good by the way) didn’t start until 8:30. DB played a few songs with them but was continually fiddling with his guitar - trying to tune it, handing off to a stage hand - very distracting. And then a set with a sitar player (!) and then a guitar player/singer from New York that seemed like acts from left field. I’m not sure when Kenny Wayne Shepard (the real reason we came) finally appeared but we only stayed for three of his songs since it was getting so late.

    Great opening band, the Greyhounds.

by D. O. on 2/19/20Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

Doyle, Kenny Wayne and Chris were incredible as were the sitar players and the Greyhounds. He essentially played with three bands. A night of surprises. Doyle and Company closed with Wild Thing to top off a great show. The ACL venue is a favorite of mine. Not a bad seat in the building. Easy access to beverages and bathrooms.

    Great Guitarist

by Joeinjax on 2/26/18Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Great show. 3 talented musicians. A Power Trio that reminded me of "Cream" with Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce. Doyle has done so much great work for other artists and is really coming into his own. Love this little venue.

    Awesome show!

by jazzbo on 11/22/17B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

Doyle Bramhall II does not disappoint. Top notch band, excellent backup horn section, brought in Chris Bruce from Smokestack for a few songs. Innovative compositions, some prog-rock leanings at times, tighter than a steel drum. My attention was rapt for the entire show...90 minutes of solid Texas rock and blues. This show far exceeded expectations. Cheers!!!

    DOYLE ON ACID JAZZ

by CNYROCKREVIEW on 11/12/17Tralf - Buffalo

WE ATTENDED TO SEE A ROCK STAR, PLAYING ROCK MUSIC. INSTEAD WITNESSED A PSYCHODELIC ACID-JAZZ INFESTED MIDDLE EASTERN FUNK JAM BAND CONVOLUTION OF THE BLUES. ... NOT THAT THE TALENT WASN'T PRESENT. THE MUSICIANSHIP WAS FANTASTIC, PARTICULARLY THE SINGING. DBII IS OBVIOUSLY AT THAT POINT OF HIS CAREER WHERE HE NEEDS TO PROVE HIMSELF AS A WORLDLY WRITER, NOT JUST A ROCK STAR- AKIN TO JOHNNY COUGAR GOING TO THE VIOLIN FACTORY, AND THEN AFRICA. THE SHOW WENT TOO FAR INTO THIS NEW ARTISTIC RHELM, AND NOT ENOUGH ROCK. TOO MANY JAM SESSIONS, WHERE DBII'S GUITAR STYLE IS JUST PLAIN 'BEEN THERE, DONE THAT." TOO MANY JAM SESSIONS JUST PLAYING CHORDS AND THE SAME LICKS OVER AND OVER. GREAT APPRECIATION OF GUITAR TONES THROUGHOUT THE SHOW... EVEN THE DRUMMER SWITCHED OUT HIS SNARE 4-5 TIMES... NO SONGS FROM SMOKESTACK UNTIL THE 2ND ENCORE: RED LIGHT, WHICH WAS FUNKED-OUT, NOT ROCKED OUT. NO SONGS FROM ARC ANGELS. ME THINKS THAT THE ENTIRE PLACE WAS A BIT IN AWE OF THE SONG SELECTION, STYLE, AND LACK OF SOME PURE TEXAS BLUES INSPIRED ROCK. THE POTENTIAL WAS THERE FOR A GREAT SHOW, BUT IT TOTALLY FELL BORING AND TOO DAVE MATTHEWS INSPIRED IN A LONE STAR WAY. YOU WIN SOME, YOU LOOSE SOME.
