About

NRBQ IN CONCERT:

The boogie masters of NRBQ give ticket buyers plenty of reasons to get down with their funky grooves and eclectic style in concert. Falling somewhere between the limber flexibility of a jam band and the finely polished precision of a jazz ensemble, the group blends everything from R&B and country to ragtime and blues, treating fans to a carefree, anything-goes vibe. Keyboardist extraordinaire Terry Adams leads the band through each adventurous shift in style, and his lightning-fast runs are enough to make audience members’ jaws drop. All the brilliant and dynamic style changes ensure fans are in for a stunning musical journey and a truly one-of-a-kind experience anytime NRBQ perform.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The New Rhythm and Blues Quartet, or NRBQ for short, originally started in 1965 as a way for Terry Adams (keyboards) and his brother Donn (trombone) to rehearse in their Shivley, KY home. Though the group’s membership has shifted frequently since their self-titled 1969 debut, Terry has remained a constant touring and recording member, while Donn’s horn arrangements have also been a regular fixture both in concert and in the studio. The group's profile rose between 1998-2001 when Simpsons showrunner Mike Scully—a devoted NRBQ fan—found ways to incorporate the band into the popular program's script. Unfortunately, the band was forced into a temporary hiatus in 2004 after Terry Adams was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer, but even that couldn’t keep him away for long. He returned in 2011 and resumed the band's busy touring and recording schedule. More than 30 albums and countless satisfied concertgoers later, NRBQ remain just as fun and inventive as ever.

    Still the greatest

by RT on 2/19/24Birchmere - Alexandria

Terry Adams is the only original member of NRBQ still in the band, but the other guys - Scott, Casey and John - are worthy successors of the earlier members. As always, the music was eclectic, heartfelt and swung like a m-fer. Harmonies are spot on. And they write some of the best, most memorable tunes in rock.

    Excellent NRBQ show

by Steven on 6/19/23Birchmere - Alexandria

We had great seats, and we thought the show was fantastic. I’m not sure where they got to do sax players as I did not think they had them in the band but they were a lot of fun too.

by cebollo on 6/19/23Birchmere - Alexandria

they leave the road trip down South on the absolute top of their game. Period. the only band alive that can rip thru classics from Monk, The Beatles, SunRa, Carl Perkins, Duke Ellington, Piano Red and Sam Cooke all the way to the BeachBoys. In one show!!!!. Astounding virtuosity and eclectic electric jazz- blues- r&b- New Orleans, country&western, PoP, Rock and anything else there is and never stop or check the road map. And their original are fantastic and iconic. Still the worlds best bar band. Bar None.

Just like old times, but NEW!

by Jeffry on 3/21/23Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Back in the early 1970s Jim Tarbell apparently loved NRBQ and booked them several times to play his original Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati. They had a unique signature sound because one of the keyboards Terry Adams played was a toy piano -- so fun! The high energy, eclectic genre-blending and solid musicianship is still strong in the band today, though Terry is the only original member touring. They bopped for a full 90 minutes, then blessed us with a 20-minute encore, and the joint was jumpin'!

No frills, just straight ahead rock, rockabilly, and blues in a way only NRBQ can deliver! The band was tight, it was a fun party atmosphere all night. Something that needs to be seen. This lineup rivals any in their long history! Thanks for a great night!
