About

OWEN IN CONCERT:

Emo master Mike Kinsella made a name for himself in the '90s with bands like American Football, Joan of Arc, and Cap'n Jazz, but for the past 15 years his solo project Owen has been his primary creative outlet. As Owen he ditches the shimmering electric guitars of his earlier projects in favor of earthy acoustics that underscore the gritty, stirring emotions of songs like "Good Friends, Bad Habits," "One of These Days," and "Never Meant." Kinsella's delicate singing and dizzying guitar runs are rounded out by some of the best indie musicians around, who contribute everything from shakers to keyboards to help propel his emotive tunes to new heights. Ticket buyers familiar with Kinsella's work will love the stripped-back approach of Owen, which makes it easier than ever to get lost in his thought-provoking lyrics and heart-rending melodies.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mike Kinsella first made a splash in his native Chicago's emo scene at the age of 12 when he joined his older brother Tim to form Cap'n Jazz in 1989. After the group broke up in 1995, the brothers formed indie outfitJoan of Arc and turned towards experimental recording techniques and sampling. Previously consigned to drums, Mike finally showed off his accomplished guitar skills when he formed math rock outfit American Football in 1997. The band's sole album was a huge critical success upon its 1999 release, but tensions quickly tore the group apart and left Kinsella to fly solo with Owen. After touring with emo trio Rainer Maria, he impressed critics with his acoustic guitar work and blossoming songwriting skills on Owen's self-titled 2001 debut. More than ten albums and 15 years later, Kinsella continues to dazzle audiences and critics alike with his moving sound and impressive musicianship any time he performs as Owen.
