About

In 2020, Son Volt planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of seminal album, Trace, with a tour that played the album from top to bottom. The pandemic had other plans. Flash forward to 2023 and they are on the road with a setlist that features Trace from beginning to end, an homage to Doug Sahm (Sir Douglas Quintet, Texas Tornados) and a celebration of 28 years of Son Volt. Son Volt's latest record, Day of the Doug, revisits the music of legendary Texas troubadour Doug Sahm. It is a summoning and a celebration of a songwriter and performer whose work forged country, Tex-Mex, rock, rhythm and blues, folk, and psychedelia into an utterly unique American sound. "It's like reconnecting with a hero," says Son Volt founder Jay Farrar. "And getting back to the same kind of perspective I had when I was starting out as a younger musician. I think it's just important to step back from what you normally do. Take stock. Take inspiration. And see where it leads from there."

    Stellar Show!

    by Angi on 8/24/23

Son Volt did not disappoint at Delmar Hall. Incredible sound and LOUD, as it should be when listening to Son Volt! Jay's vocals sounded as strong as 25 years ago. So happy I went.

    Son Volt Better Than Ever

    by Flak on 8/22/23

The band was tight and loud. They wasted no time on pleasantries. They rocked out and sounded as good as they did 20 years ago

Jay, Doug, and Robbie: Great Show

    by Ed on 8/22/23

Opening act was nothing special but the energy and musicianship soared as Jay and the band launched into some great Doug Sahm music. It convinced me to buy THE DAY OF THE DOUG cd afterwards. Good Tex-Mex rockabilly music. The songs from TRACE sounded as fresh as ever and made me wonder (again) why this album didn't do better at taking them to another level of national recognition. Finally, the encore rendition of "The Weight"by Robbie Robertson was the perfect ending to a great evening of music. All in all, another good show of music by the always non-verbose Jay Farrar.

    Great Show!

    by BD on 8/21/23

The show was great! I wish the vocals were turned ip a little higher. They were drowned out by the music. The venue was freezing, though! Way too cold!! Many people were frozen out.

    Excellent show

I really like the intimate setting at Delmar Hall. Son Volt put on a great show which was better than I had imagined, wish that I would’ve went both nights.

    Son Volt @ Teragram Ballroom

by Chambo on 6/24/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

My experience was a good one. Parking was easy as there is a lot directly across the street from the venue. Entry was quick and easy. I made some new friends with likewise Americana fans while waiting for the show to start. Opening act Jesse Farrar was good and well received by the audience. Son Volt played a well paced 90 minute set that only seemed to get louder as they rocked an adoring audience.

    Great band...great venue

by Marko Polo on 6/15/22Neumos - Seattle

It's a little nuts that Son Volt would play such a small venue. Opener Jesse Farrar was funny and endearing. The PA was hard to hear down front, but the sound was good once you got back a little further. SV was tight and has a new lead guitarist. As usual, Jay said very little to the crowd. It's just not his thing.

One of three best shows I have seen in 50 years of shows

by Greg Byberg, Playa Del Rey, CA on 6/8/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

Just love Jay Ferrar's voice. But the other guys are super tight, and the sound was super clear and just like listening to an album. And I have been playing their songs ever since the night of the show....wasnt a real big fan until I saw them live...........money and time WELL spent. Thanks for putting them on....keep bringing them to LA-
