About

DELBERT MCCLINTON IN CONCERT:

Veteran Texas bluesman Delbert McClinton is a talented recording artist who is no stranger to the top of the charts, but the real magic happens when he hits the stage. McClinton's hootin' and hollerin' take on the blues gets the whole crowd jumping at his live shows. His incredible harmonica and guitar playing really bring favorites like "Giving It Up for Your Love" and "Every Time I Roll the Dice" to life. Whether he's telling a hilarious story or sharing the spotlight with his killer saxophonist, McClinton is a gracious and authentic performer who always impresses on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Lubbock, Texas, McClinton cut his teeth playing in a bar band called the Straitjackets before hitting the charts in 1962 with his harmonica playing on Bruce Channel's No. 1 hit "Hey! Baby". He began releasing his own albums in the early '70s, finding his way onto the charts with albums like Love Rustler (1977) and Keeper of the FLlame (1979). A talented songwriter, McClinton also penned hits for other artists, including the 1978 Emmylou Harris No. 1 smash "Two More Bottles of Wine". He scored a hit single of his own in 1980 with "Giving It Up for Your Love", which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. McClinton continued releasing successful albums throughout the '80s and '90s, but things really picked up in the '00s when he landed four No. 1 albums on the US Blues chart and nabbed a Grammy for his 2005 album The Cost of Living. A gifted performer, McClinton continues to tear it up for fans whenever and wherever he tours.

First time at Vedra Beach. Used Jacksonville and Delbert as our first destination on our Florida vacation. Venue was easy parking with cold drinks available inside. Great band -7 in his band. Loved it especially when he sang some of my favorite songs. Sound was good.

    Great performance; ok venue

by jab on 2/12/20Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Delbert and band are the best and we travel to see them whenever possible. This was our first visit to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and it left us with a so-so impression. While the acoustics were great, the seating left a lot to be desired. The seats are folding chairs (at least they are padded) in 20 rows of about 24 chairs each. There is no middle aisle so everyone except the very end seats have to squeeze past multiple people to leave their seats. Additionally there is no elevation of the rows so you constantly have to look between the people in front of you to view the stage. Security is efficient but over the top. At the end of the hall to the women's restroom is the entrance to the backstage area. There was an armed guard at that entrance with his hand resting on his gun! Did I feel safer, not really!

Artists were very good, musicians were exceptional.

by Blues Man on 2/12/20Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Great performers all around. Seating was a bit close but okay. Major issue was the sound. Either the sound system needs upgrading or sound techs could have better balanced the vocal and instrument channels. Vocals could not be heard all that well.

Delbert and his band put a great show and anyone that likes music should see it. Well written songs played by talented musicians is a great way to spend a Saturday night. I've seen Delbert 6 times at the PVCH over the years and will see him the next time he comes to town.

    Ponte Vedra Delbert McClinton

by CG on 2/11/20Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Best performance of band in last 5 venues I have seen in 1 1/2 year. I wont see another concert at Ponte Vedra concert hall unless it is standing only. No dancing standing was allowed even in 2 row. You had to go in back

    Still rockin

by G. K. on 2/11/20Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Delbert's voice still sounds the way it did when I first saw him 40 some-odd years ago (raspy and bluesy). He surrounded himself with an outstanding band of 6 great musicians. He played two fairly long sets but I think he shorted us on a couple of favorites. Seeing him at Ponte Vedra was like he was playing in his living room.... I would have attended another show the next night if one was available. 5 thumbs up. Fantastic.
