About

LETTUCE is (a) the prime ingredient in a salad, (b) a slang for cash, (c) a green herb that can be smoked, (d) a genre-busting six-member musical collective formed in 1992 by four alumni of the prestigious Berklee College Of Music, or (e) all of the above. If you answered "e," then you're in on the sheer magic of a band that both feeds the rich history of funk and combines it with strains of hip-hop, rock, psychedelia, jazz, soul, jam, go-go, and the avant-garde.

The GRAMMY Award-nominated six-piece is comprised of Adam Deitch [drums, percussion, arrangement], Adam "Shmeeans" Smirnoff [guitar], Erick "Jesus" Coomes [bass], Ryan Zoidis [alto, baritone, tenor sax, Korg X-911], Eric "Benny" Bloom [trumpet, horns], and Nigel Hall [vocals, Hammond B-3, Rhodes, clavinet, keyboards].  To date, their discography includes Outta Here [2002], Rage! [2008], Fly [2012], Crush [2015], the EP Mt. Crushmore [2016], the live album Witches Stew [2017], Elevate [2019], Resonate [2020], Unify [2022], and now VIBE - a single 48 minute continuous session of pure, free-flowing improvisation, available digitally for the first time.

With VIBE, Lettuce cement their status as boundary-pushing innovators three decades into their lauded career, blurring lines and smashing up jazz chords, psychedelic passages, big horns, strains of soul and go-go, hip-hop elements for an uplifting, improvisational sound all their own. Ryan Zoidis explains, "we got into a vibe and hit record. 48 minutes went by like a blink of an eye. This is our first purely improvised recording. Nothing planned, nothing edited or overdubbed. This is a true spontaneous musical expression captured in its entirety."

All together now... Lett us VIBE.

Best show ever. They killed it like usual. Tons of new music too.

    Learned something New

by Debbie downer on 2/27/24Jannus Live - St Petersburg

I learned I have a distaste for “jam bands” or whatever this was. Jannus at 9pm on a Saturday was a terrible idea. Nobody moved, the lights were blinding and the sound system went out. Worst concert experience I’ve ever had.

    Bad Venue.

by BadVenue on 2/27/24Jannus Live - St Petersburg

Smelled like a men’s urinal in the back half of the place. The sound was awful, and at one point cut out during their performance. Terrible drink selection. The band was fine, but they play off the vibe and place stunk.

    First timer

    by KonaBoy63 on 2/25/24The Senate - Columbia

I would definitely see Lettuce again! I have been listening to them for awhile and heard they were playing in Columbia, SC. That was the closest show to Atlanta. A friend and I made the 3+ hour drive each way and are so glad we did.

    Mediocre at best

by Suave on 2/25/24The Senate - Columbia

They just couldn't quite finish a jam. They have their moments. Great musicians! Collectively tho they build and build, but have no real release. It's a tough thing to do. I understand completely. So, no hard feelings. Had a great time.

    Awesome show!

by Jaybird on 2/25/24The Senate - Columbia

This was a last minute purchase and although I wasn’t feeling great I decided to drive the 2 hours to see Lettuce. They are best enjoyed live. I was held up in bad traffic which led to me not arriving until 8 and then the parking garage was full. I circled around and all lots were slap full and as I have a bad knee I took a chance on the parking deck one more time. As I was waiting on a couple to pack up and pull out a truck behind me left so I grabbed that spot. I headed in and luckily the band was just coming on stage. To say the night was magic would be an understatement. And loved getting Shakedown Street. I had to leave after 11 before the encore was over but I was tired and needed to sit after dancing for 3 hours straight. The joy of the audience and band fed each other … magic indeed!

    Lettuce FUNK!

by Made-N-Tx on 2/19/24Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater - Austin

As always Lettuce brought a masterclass in FUNK to Stubbs in Austin. From the Nigel Hall DJ sets to welcome us into the venue and during intermission, to the Two amazing sets (plus encore) the whole place was buzzing and moving to the music! We had perfect weather, and Stubbs as always is a great place to host such an event. Can’t say enough good things about this show, and I’ll never miss a Lettuce show when they come to town and neither should you! Deitch Beats don’t quit!

    Bad sound

by Jesse on 2/19/24Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater - Austin

The bass levels were way too high and it distorted the sound terribly.
