South Florida Bulls at Raymond James Stadium
In less than a quarter of a century, the University of South Florida has built a team from the ground up that can compete among the best in the nation. The USF Bulls play out of Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, which opened in 1998 and currently seats 65,618. Even though the Tampa Bay region is centrally located on the Florida peninsula, the University of South Florida was the southernmost school in the Florida state university system upon its founding in 1956. The Bulls are coached by Jeff Scott, who won two national championships as the co-offensive coordinator at Clemson before joining South Florida after the 2019 season.
History of South Florida Bulls Football
After years of grassroots support among USF students, and spearheaded by the assistant athletic director and Hall of Fame defensive end Lee Roy Selmon, the South Florida Bulls first took the field on September 6, 1997, beating Kentucky Wesleyan 80-3 in its first game at Houlihan's Stadium. USF played four seasons at the NCAA Division 1-AA level before quickly rising up the FBS level, joining the Big East Conference in 2005 after success in Conference USA and as a Division 1-A independent. South Florida's breakout season came in 2007, upsetting No. 17 Auburn and No. 5 West Virginia on their way to a 6-0 start. The Bulls were ranked as high as No. 2 before finishing the season with a 9-4 record and a Sun Bowl appearance.
The USF Bulls are known for the quality of their head coaches throughout their history, including Jim Leavitt, who ran the program from its inception until 2011. The Bulls have also been coached by such notable names as Skip Holtz, Willie Taggart, and Charlie Strong. Many distinguished players have suited up for the Bulls, including Jason Pierre-Paul and Nate Allen. USF's biggest rivalry by far is against in-state conference opponent Central Florida, with the Knights facing the Bulls on a regular basis since UCF joined the Big East during its transition into the American Athletic Conference in 2012.
Really enjoyable game with great seats and fans. Atmosphere was brilliant and would Defo go again
Great Game!! W. Taggart has got the Bulls moving!!! Go Bulls and we'll come to the Bowl Game too!!! Ray Jay is a great facility!!!
They advertised that first 5000 fans would receive a USF t shirt . Guy at customer service said only account holders would get T shirt . He said if you bought 7 tickets , you would only get 1 T shirt . I guess they dont consider the other 6 people are fans . This represents false advertisement .
Arrive at stadium early . Beautiful place. Pirate ship orBucaneer ship to be exact.all refreshment concessions designed as a bucaneer village very cool. Bought some USF apparel and sunglasses. Then nice Italian sub and beer. Sat in our assigned seats and had a clear view of field and team warm ups. Then went down hill my wife became very quiet and pale. I asked if she was OK ? She responded NO and clutching her chest collapsed to the floor. I yelled to a nearby usher to call for emt's. He instead called his supervisor I again directed him we need medical assistance. About five more minutes passed as my wife faded in and out of consciencousness . Emt's arrived and were great got my wife to an ER, like room and began treatment. Contacted the hospital and got her in an ambulance to St. JOES HOSPITAL. As we pulled out for the hospital I heard the game kickoff. Spent the next 41/2 hours in hospital. Missed the game completely. But my wife didn't have aheart attack and is doing well. :-) So ill have to try it again.
Every staff member we encountered was very friendly. There is not a bad seat in the stadium.
This was the first game of our son's journey at USF and it was fantastic! We enjoyed it so much we are going to come back for two more games this season! The stadium was awesome and contributed to a great atmosphere.
It was great. Last minute tickets and the best seats.
I love Raymond James Stadium., but I wish it had a cover. It's easy to park and navigate. I hate noon time games, no relief from the sun.
Excellent Venue, excellent game. Great atmosphere, and well put together. GO KNIGHTS!
Game was great! Seats were great! Not happy that UCF band was put in the nosebleeds. I don't think that was necessary, especially since the seats were only half full!
The UCF/USF game was enjoyable. The Knights shut out the Bulls 16 to 0, first time this happened in their home stadium. The only bad part was that UCF's band was put way up in the nosebleed section and could hardly be seen or heard.
NFL rules for entry were ridiculous and not enough warning was given until you were all the way at the gate. The seats did not have enough hieght (angle) to actually see game. Interlacing the fans from both schools in the same seating sections made the game a lot less enjoyable and took away the esprite de corps that you expect when you go to cheer on your college team. I will not waste my money again to go back to a stadium that does not actually have a home or away side like USF's apparent situation.
The stadium is beautiful, clean, many bathrooms and food options, super clean, great experience, staff all friendly and helpful.
This was a dire game - NC State just took control, and the Bulls had no answer.
Event people and staff were great. Let us sit under the roof in second deck. Heavy rain all game. Even let us use the Bull's club area!
Always a good time when the Bulls win! Great venue, nothing beats having an NFL stadium as a college football teams home stadium.
For years now, each time you go to a game, the band should enter the same way, the dancers and cheerleaders should enter the same way. In past you have choose your cheerleaders and dancers based on friends in stead of talent. Therefore, the uniforms are really bad, looks like "pop warner" cheerleaders. No up beat beginning, more like high school then college. Attend an event at the UF you might get a feel.
Game ok, time with friends great, RJ Suite fantastic, weather miserable.
Great venue, but where were all the fans? It was disappointing to see such a low turnout of USF fans. It was a large stadium, but still, I would say, maybe only 1/6th full.
Awesome stadium! GREAT SEATS! Family day. GOING back again
