    Great Theater, Mediocre Performance

by KirbeeK on 1/18/18The Lyric Theatre - Birmingham

My girls and I were super excited when we came into the theater - what a beautiful venue, and not a bad seat in the house! However, the ballet itself was not very well executed. The costumes and sets were lovely overall, but the dancers lacked technique, and many seemed poorly trained or inexperienced. There were two or three dancers among them who made the show worthwhile, but I would not pay to see this ballet company perform again.

    Gorgeous

by ALCurlyGirl on 1/17/18The Lyric Theatre - Birmingham

First of all, the photo above is not from this ballet and doesn't do justice to the opulence of it. It would have been nice to have a program to follow, but the show itself was perfection. I only wish there were more people there to enjoy it.

    Russian Ballet was okay

by Lucy6223 on 1/17/18The Lyric Theatre - Birmingham

I took my 12 and 10 year old nieces to this ballet to introduce them to the art of ballet. For that, it was perfect. If you are a serious person about ballet, it was only okay. This is certainly not the Russian ballet's "A" string. However, as much as I wanted to love the Lyric Theater, I must warn that if you are over about 5' 3" and weigh more than 150, you might be sure to buy box seats where it might be more comfortable. My husband is a tall man and he was miserable because of the seats being so close together. As historical theaters go, this is a beauty though.

    Sleeping Beauty needed some explanation

by Kack2 on 1/17/18The Lyric Theatre - Birmingham

The combination of venue and performance made for a wonderful experience. The only complaint, and one that I heard from others in attendance, was the lack of a program. At intermission we were googling Wikipedia for a explanation of the characters and what was happening onstage. Some information about The State Ballet of Russia and the performers would also have been appreciated.

My five year old daughter enjoyed the show. there was a 10 minute intermission. The food at the venue was over priced but that expected.

    good, but very short

by christyc5 on 3/26/14Akron Civic Theatre - Akron

I really like the Civic venue and usually the shows are 5 star. This one was disapointing because it was maybe 40 minutes total. And that is being generous. Considering it took me 45 minutes to get there - it would have been nice to know in advance that this was not a full performance, but a condensed silly version. The performers were good, the handsome prince was the standout star of the show. My 8 year old son and I enjoyed the overall performance, just expected full production.

    Poor quality

by MusicLover32 on 5/7/13Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

The actors did a poor job. It was hard to understand them over their screeching. Not what I expected at all. I would not recommend this to anyone.

    Sleeping Beauty for Young Ones!

by Kellerpromise on 5/7/13Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

I don't think we were aware that this was a younger children's performance, and therefore, was cut very short! I think the musical lasted an hour to 90 min. at the most. Also, wish people would have arrived on time! They were letting in people 15 minutes or more after the start of the musical! So ridiculous! Theater etiquette was thrown out the door! People were on their cell phones checking their Facebook/Twitter, etc. Seats were old & uncomfortable. The only good thing about it was the fact that we were sitting in a very old theater with a lot of history. Actors did a great job! Just wish it was longer!

    Sleeping Beauty was FUN!

by TheBiev on 5/6/13Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

My daughter and I had a fantastic time. The play was a very fun event and I don't think I could have asked for a more entertaining night. I for one will enjoy going to more events with the Children's Fine Arts Series at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre.

Not the best rendition of Sleeping Beauty

by C1922 on 5/5/13Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San Antonio

I was not impressed with this production. The story was somewhat different from the Disney version, which would have been ok, if not for the terrible musical sequences. Overall, I was not very happy with the production and found myself extremely grateful that it was just an hour long. I've seen other non-Disney theater productions before, such as Aladdin, and that musical production was much better musically than this production of Sleeping Beauty.
