These guys are loud and tight. Lots of heavy riffs coming at you. As always they make time for audience Q & A and general edification. Also they have the coolest gear racks you will know ever. Set was a fair mix of the bands oeuvre from Action Park's 'Dog & Pony Show' to eponymous 'Dude, Incredible' to their spacious and angular 'The End of Radio.' The crowd, mostly similar in age to the band, heaped its adoration. I first saw Shellac in Muncie, IN in 1995 deliver raw, rhythmic psychoto rock with audience Q & A - and here they are in 2022 still delivering Monster Chicago Power Trio Rock with Q & A. Impressive for three corn dogs.
Very enjoyable show. I don't think they used any effects other than lots of volume. The amps did not appear to have any pre amps, so no volume or tone control except what's on the guitars. Very clean sound at extreme volume level. Steve Albini's waist band guitar strap was something I had not seen anyone else use before. Tom, the bass player's question and answer bits between songs was a great idea. I wish that people's questions would have been better, but he did pretty well with what he had to work with. Nice to see the drum kit front and center.
Shellac always puts on an amazing live show. They are very light hearted about their work and keep you laughing in between songs. The question and answer section is always hilarious. The songs off the new record were amazing. They play the classics. Shellac knows their audience. They also sold the shirts personally right off the stage which is quite common with shellac.
Shellac was simply amazing. They are so tight musically and so whimsical as guys. Their timing is just incredible. Albini's guitar playing was absolutely on point, as was the syncopated rhythm section of Bob & Todd. The guitar tones are sooooo good and unique. The set sounded fresh, powerful and in your face, er, ear! Just a rad show. Also, this is my first time to the Teragram Ballroom and I was very impressed with the whole thing. The layout, with the two front bars and then the ballroom. The sound and light systems are state of the art. The sound quality was crystal clear with a nice big bottom end. Very impressive place overall.
