About

With a catalog of songs that reaches back 50 years, Van Morrison always delivers a concert that’s impossible to predict  for his many ticket buyers. The iconic Northern Ireland native has, of course, recorded classic albums like Moondance and Astral Weeks, and timeless singles like "Brown Eyed Girl," "Domino," and "Wild Night." But he's released well over 30 albums during the course of his career, building a repertoire that veers from Celtic music to folk to blues to covers of standards. His focus on any given night could switch on the dime as he follows his muse wherever it takes him. From Madison Square Garden to Arizona Federal Theatre, fans fill seats to see Van Morrison on tour because the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is a master of making his own whatever genre or song he tackles. His unmistakable voice is a reedy and expressive growl, and his delivery --  which is constantly evolving -- conjures elements of jazz, blues and gospel. His latest album, 2012's Born to Sing: No Plan B, marked his first batch of original songs in five years and was hailed by many critics as recalling his much-heralded recordings of the late '60s and early '70s. It peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

    Not Satisfied

by KC on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

He didn't play one of his hits! I expected at least a couple of hit songs from him.

    Excellent AND Disappointing

    by Aeropapa on 9/13/23

If you had never heard of Van Morrison, you would have absolutely loved this incredible concert of blues, gospel, and American roots songs. This singer had an incredible voice and his band and backup singers were phenomenal. I thoroughly enjoyed the music experience. That being said, c'mon man! Only one Van Morrison song in the whole concert? I was thankful I hadn't spent a small fortune to attend because I was able to score admission through Vet Tix (for you brother veterans out there - look them up). The venue was well organized and the acoustics were superb. My only complaint was that there were a few posted signs encouraging people to stand up. Thankfully, our view was not blocked too often.

    An evening of healing

by Eoin on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

I've never experienced anything like the van Morrison concert i attended 8 sep 2023. I've been a fan for decades but nothing rabid. Half the songs i know, i only know the chorus. This was an add on show bc my wife and i planned to attend ed sheeran the next night. I was looking forward to a night of familiar music i could join in singing occasionally. Instead, Van treated us to an incredible medley of mostly new music i enjoyed thoroughly from start to finish. I was moved spiritually and i felt healed after letting myself give in to the rhythm and energy Van shared. Thank you, Van. I'm grateful for what you helped me feel.

    Disappointed

by Rick B on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

I've been listening to Van Morrison since the 70's. I've bought alblums, 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs, and paid to download songs to my playlists. I spent a lot of money to go see one of my all-time favorite musicians/song writers. However, he didn't play but one of the approximate top 50 top songs that provided him with unimaginable wealth over the years. Money spent by people who bought his music for the best songs he plays. And, people go to his concerts to hear the great songs that they have paid to hear when they purchase his music. The songs were still good, but most of the songs spent significant concert time on solos of other members of the group. I wouldn't have minded even half of the concert with some of his top songs. But, he basically snubbed those who made him rich, by choosing not to. If Van is tired of playing the songs that made him extremely wealthy by his fans buying the those songs, then maybe he should consider retirement.

    Only the new

by VM Big Fan on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

It’s with the greatest of arrogance that artists only play their new music and nothing of their old that made you fall in love with them. When you pay exorbitant prices for tickets, I feel the artists should give you what you came for; instead Van played but one song from the past, Into the Mystic, and all the rest was new music no one has heard. That being said, he is still great; the music was good; the musicians the best, but don’t bother spending the cost of a ticket if you want to hear his old music.

Give the audience a little of what they want?

by Dodgerms on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

Van the Man was on point, still a great voice, a musician's musician and lyricist at heart, great songs, tight band and show, on time performance, BUT, how about giving the audience what they want.....aside from GLORIA, give the audience just a couple select Popular songs from the many you have, Van. That is what most people grumbled about.

    Where's Moon Dance?

by Teri on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

Van Morrison came out on stage and belted out one song after another. But half of them I wasn't even familiar with. Never played Brown Eyed Girl, Moon Dane, Tupelo Honey. Those were the songs I grew up on. Heard a lot of grumbling around me from other concert goers with the same complaint.

Discovered Skiffle and Feel Good Vibes!

by MargieC on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

Must buy this album!! Don’t miss an opportunity to see him perform this live! Inspired and Fresh Fun! Van Morrison‘s bright and upbeat performance of his new album, Moving on Skiffle, was a discovery of his big influence & a new genre to me! His pure joy while singing these catchy tunes with an amazing, talented band shined through! It was entertaining and refreshing to be surprised with falling in love with another side of my favorite artist. This work must be shared by fans. His lively saxophone and tambourine made me jump up and dance. “Come On In” was easy to sing along with the first time hearing it and his version of This Loving Light of Mine was moving. Best Gig with Van! :) He has always got it!

    Van in Vegas.

by Jimmymac on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

I grew up 100 yards from where Van grew up in Hyndford Street,East Belfast. He is ten years older than me so we had no shared childhood experiences. I have followed his career for well over fifty years and seen him perform live on many occasions, always in Northern Ireland. This was my first opportunity to see him in a non - home setting and it was well worth the wait. We were attending a family wedding in Vegas and the concert was our last outing before flying home to Belfast the following day. The theatre was an excellent venue for the concert. Comfortable with clear views of the stage and excellent acoustics. Perhaps a large screen on either side of the stage would add to the audiences enjoyment, allowing close-ups of the performers. The set began on the dot of 8 pm with Van being introduced in his normal manner by the band leader after a short warm up by the musicians. Straight into a series of skiffle, swing and early blues. The band as tight and clear as I have ever heard them and Van’s vocals stronger than many artists half his age. I knew he was enjoying himself, but being The Man he kept that largely to himself. One response to a cry from the audience for Caravan ,a very terse “Buy the movie” and on we went. I really felt a difference watching with an American audience. The first hour of the set was a real homage to early American music, very heavily influenced by American artists and I felt the set would not have been played that way to a British/Irish/European audience. Probably for that reason I enjoyed it even more. We were then treated to forty minutes of back catalogue with superb performances of several classics. Into the mystic. Whenever God shines his light. Precious Time. In the Garden Dweller on the threshold Enlightenment I cannot remember ever having heard him play all these tracks in a previous concert. Each one was delivered with a belief, the vocal strong and clear, the band as tight as can be. Each musician got an opportunity to show their virtuosity individually and collectively. The backing singers were a perfect blend and support to Van’s delivery. He left the stage in his usual way, although he surprised me by actually returning for a one song encore, before exiting again leaving the band to play a funky seven or eight minute end. Ok,I’m a huge fan. I may see things through slightly Van coloured glasses . But this was ,in my opinion,a superb performance and one I feel very lucky to have seen. I have seen many, many artists perform over many years, and the wee man from Hyndford Street,Belfast 5 is up there with any of them. “It’s too late to stop now,”

    Bucket list concert

by Susie on 9/13/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

Van Morrison is a musician's musician. He and his touring band put on an incredibly fabulous show even though he didn't play his well-known songs except for closing with "Gloria". There was no disappointment as he ran through a great set of wonderful songs with a very tight and well-rehearsed band. Do not miss him as he might not come this way again. What a great show! As good as a great Eric Clapton show.

    Terrible concert

by Lynnie on 9/12/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

He is not the same Van Morrison that we knew and loved. Changed to a New Orleans style of music. Good sounding band but obviously not what we, or most of the audience, went to see. He played 1 of his old songs, Into the Mystic, but the lyrics were the only thing that were the same. He completely changed the melody to something unrecognizable. He could have played just a couple of his old songs and people would have been happy. I would actually like my money back - it was that bad.

    Not what I expected

by Jess on 9/12/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

It was a good show with a lot of talented musicians. However, he didn’t really play the classics we expected to hear. Got a while it felt more like going to a southern church than a rock concert. I was disappointed. Talented but not what I thought I was going to see

    Van is still The Man

by Torch on 9/12/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

First I need to say what a great venue the Bakkt Theater was. The good incline of the floor allowed great line of sight for the entire audience. But what really wowed me was the sound system. I have gone to concerts in dozens of different venues over the years and this was the best live music sound I have ever heard. Crisp and clean, it enabled the audience to catch every lyric and subtlety coming from the stage. When it comes to Van Morrison, I have read many reviews from audience members that were disappointed he didn't play more of his old hits. But Morrison has been clear in interviews over the years that he is interested in playing the music that captures him now, not in being a human jukebox playing his golden oldies. I personally think that those that want that kind of performance should make a compilation set of all their favorites and stay home and listen to them. I loved hearing the music that Morrison is into now. As an artist we should not expect him to just be parroting the same song performances over and over for the fifty year career he has had. The songs he played are ones that have inspired him and if you are truly a fan one can hear the roots of his music in the songs he played. Morrison has always had a bad rap for not being more of a showman and interacting with the audience. But again, he is an artist and that is not his personality or style. There are plenty of head-bangers and light shows out there if that is the sort of concert you want to see, If you are a true fan of an artist and their music it is as incumbent on you to respect their artistic choices as it is their responsibility to give a full evening of music. At almost an hour and a half, I think the audience got a full night of music, which is really all we have the right to expect from an artist of Morrison's caliber.

Oh way more than I expected

by Thibs on 9/12/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

I had heard that he was going to do his new album so I had very low expectations. His new album is amazing. The jazz is incredible. His band was incredible. Have all those guitar players, a standup bass washboard B3 organ I mean come on that’s amazing.

    Disappointing set list

by Coach on 9/12/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

I'm a 64 yr old major Van fan, first show in '78.. or thereabouts! Bought these tix in February so the anticipation built up for months. Flew to Vegas for the show so we had that expense, hotel and F&B wrapped up around the event. Lets just say had I seen the set list I would've passed. Van and his band played 90% traditional folk type music and sounded great but I knew two songs, Into the Mystic and Precious Time. We all know Van can be unpredictable so you roll the dice when you purchase tix, but like my GF said "guess he forgot what motivated peeps to buy tix"and she was correct-it wasn't to hear what we were offered. A gent in the rest room post show- "I wouldn't of flown thousands of miles for that had I known"..we only flew 700 so I felt better after that. Done with Van shows.

    Hoping the reviews weren't true!

by Lisa S. on 9/12/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

After purchasing tickets for the September 8th show at the Bakkt Theatre I went and read the reviews for past shows. A huge majority stated that, "Van Morrison plays what he wants and not what the ticket holders expect."That was very true. The band was incredibly talented. Van Morrison sounded exceptional. The only thing missing was about 8-10 of his most famous songs; the songs that brought us all to the concert. He played two, yes two, songs that we knew. No Brown Eyed Girl, no Moondance, no Have I Told You Lately. We have never spent this much to go to a concert and we will not again. Also, we had trouble accessing the Ticketmaster app and had to go to the ticket counter for help. This was disappointing as well. This is not the first time we had trouble with the app and will not use it again if we can avoid it.

    Wouldn’t play the classics

by Lu Vegas on 9/12/23Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

If you want to hear his classics, stay home and steam his music. He came out and played his new album good voice. Horrible show.
