As Lynyrd Skynyrd approaches the 50th anniversary of the band's critically acclaimed debut album 'Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd' in 2023, they resonate as deeply with their multi-generational fan base today as when they first emerged out of Jacksonville, Florida in 1973. Few ensembles have had the deep impact in creating a lifestyle as Skynyrd has. The band travels forward with a primary mission of celebrating a legacy that honors all whom have had a resonating contribution to the lives of hundreds of millions of fans globally. Former members Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Ed King, Billy Powell, Bob Burns, Leon Wilkeson and Hughie Thomasson alongside others will forever remain significant contributors to this indelible repertoire and the band's colorful history. Today, Lynyrd Skynyrd rocks on with a current line-up featuring Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Mark "Sparky" Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Keith Christopher, Peter Keys, Carol Chase and Stacy Michelle. Gary Rossington continues to have a significant presence and creative influence with the band, while making select appearances on the road.
The rock and roll powerhouse continually tours, and as Van Zant shares, "It's about the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and what it stands for, what the fans are all about. There's nothing like getting out there playing a great show with Skynyrd and seeing people love this music." Adds Rossington, "We're still standing, Still keeping the music going. We wanted to do the guys who aren't with us any more proud, and keep the name proud, too."
With a catalog of over 60 albums, billions of streams, and tens of millions of records sold, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Lynyrd Skynyrd remain a cultural icon that appeal to all generations.
Sound, seating, parking great. Everything great except no smoking not enforced.
This show was great. This was my sixth or seventh time seeing Skynrd and they are still rocking like crazy. Music sounded good. Great new venue. Packed full house with no issues.
The bands were amazing, Black Street Cherry opened the show followed by ZZ Top, and lastly Lynyrd Skynyrd rocked us into the night. The venue could use larger restrooms, three urinals is not enough for the volume of people. First time seeing a line for the men's room and not the women's room. The stairs need yellow paint on the edges. I saw several patrons nearly trip and fall, although alcohol could have been a partial factor.
We enjoyed the show but we wish we had been further back from the stage. All the music was way to loud in the pit seating.
The show was awesome the venue was outstanding the music was great both in g like a show with the music I grew up with again it was amazing.
The whole show was great. BUT Lynard Skynard was in the house, mayhave been the best I ever heard them...maybe because of their 50 yrs
Lynard Skynard was an amazing concert! One of the best I've ever been to. My husband knew Ronnie and Donnie, and got a chance to talk to Johnnie earlier in the day, and it was an emotional roller coaster, in a good way. Our grandsons loved it! Multi-generational fans!!!
All of the bands were awesome. Had never heard Black Stone Cherry but really liked them. Lynard Skynard and ZZ Top brought up lots of memories. Still hard rockin. The new venue is great. Clean lots of parking, easy in and out, good layout. A great 4+ hours of music and fun
Skynyrd, ZZTop, and. Black Stone Cherry sounded great. The overall sound was awesome. However, the lawn seats leave much to be desired. The lawn is pretty flat. The stage is low. Meaning you can't see the stage at all. You might catch a glimpse if everyone moves at once, but there is no way you are seeing the whole stage. The video on the back of the stage focused mainly on the singer and very little on the rest of the band. They also used a lot of special effects on the video so you didn't actually see what they were doing on the stage. Sound great, venue design leaves much to be desired.
We were blessed to be able to use the valet service which made access a snap. There were plenty of pleasant and knowledgeable staff on duty to help with way finding. All three sets by performers were spot on and tight. There appeared to be some problems with the sound for the headliners; don’t know if this was on the venu, the producers, or the performers. We will definitely return to the Macon Amphitheater in future.
