About

Elton John in Concert

Sir Elton Hercules John, English singer, songwriter and pianist, has been a fixture of the soft rock and pop music scene since the early 1960s and toured the globe extensively in his decades-long career. John's 2016-2018 Wonderful Crazy Night Tour has taken him throughout North America, the Middle East and Europe, as did his 2012-2013 Rocket Man 40th Anniversary Tour and 2011-2012 Greatest Hits Tour. John's musical style is marked by his flashy piano work and distinctive lead vocals. He is best known for his easy-listening rock and pop tunes, though, he is equally accomplished at creating works for films and the stage. His live shows combine his expert musicianship with flamboyant costumes and infectious energy, creating an atmosphere that enthralls audiences worldwide. Elton John's musical prowess has earned him numerous accolades. He managed to have a charting Top 40 hit every year from 1970 to 1996 and has crafted timeless melodies like "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," "Crocodile Rock," and "Bennie & The Jets." He's been nominated for nearly 30 Grammy Awards, and won eight, including Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and a Hall of Fame award.

Elton John Background

Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, in Pinner, England, John was introduced to music at an early age. He started playing piano at age four, and won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at age 11. After leaving the Academy in 1961, he made the decision to pursue a career in music and joined his first band, Bluesology. John met his longtime writing partner, lyricist Bernie Taupin, in the mid-1960s, and since then has collaborated with him on more than 30 albums. Classic albums like his self-titled Elton John and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player are considered masterpieces to many a rock fan, and works like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road catapulted John to his legendary status. Though John is an icon in the field of music, his worldly influence stretches beyond songwriting and performing. In 1992, he established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with the express purpose of supporting HIV prevention, education and care for those living with the disease.

    Elton John in Phoenix

    by Markedman707 on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

The show was amazing, from the sound to the lighting were on point. The lines to get into the show and at concession were handled very efficiently. This was Elton's last time in Phoenix and he and his band performed flawlessly. The only grip I have is sightline from floor seats, they should have had the stage a little higher.

    Great show - horrible sound

by Great show - Horrible sound on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Elton was great, band was great, songs were great, sound was HORRIBLE!!! Mostly muddy reverb, hard to even hear him sing. Chase Field in Phx is a terrible place to see a great performer.

The concert was amazing Elton John was fabulous! The only problem we had was finding our seats on the floor they were not clearly marked we had to have an usher find them for us and ushers were scarce

    Good concert...poor venue

by EXFLYR on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Elton John. A great artist and good chap. Have really enjoyed his music for years. Was hoping that the final concert would be a great way to pay respects to a lifetime of his artistry. Chase Field was not the place. Unless you were on the field, even with great seats you were such a very long way away. He was a speck without the video. The biggest disappointment was the sound quality. Chase was never designed with acoustics and it's odd shape and cavernous size made for a really poor acoustical performance. Loud. Yes. Overdriven to the point of distortion a number of times and lacked clarity and vibrance. It was just super loud to make sure people a quarter mile up in the seats could hear him. We had a good seats but a poor experience. The dancing that had started initially, stopped after the first song and with a few exceptions, never happened again. I appreciate Sir EJ immensely and am glad to have had the opportunity to go. However, I would not trust a concert at that venue again.

    He shouldn’t retire!

by Jeff S on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Wow—simply amazing. Over two hours of hit after hit after hit. Elton and his band sound terrific—even in a baseball stadium. Sad that he is retiring when he still brings his A-game to his performances.

Does it get any better than this?

by LoveLiveEvents on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

We had floor seats at the Elton John show and it was amazing ! The venue was well organized and Elton John played all the hits and more. Amazing that there was no opening act (of course he doesn't need one - everyone was thrilled to be there!) and he played for about 2.5hrs. Awesome!

All good, Elton John is a wonderful entertainer. this is the 3rd time I have gone to see him and it was the best. So, so sorry he is retiring, but he certainly has earned it. Graphics during show were fabulous.

    Awful

I will never go to another concert at Chase Field. They were so disorganized. I felt sorry for Elton John since the sound system was awful.

Chase Field is a terrible venue.

by LeighD on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

I'll never go to another concert at Chase Field. Elton was great and put on a great show. We were in the second row. A few songs in, they opened the ropes and purposely let all these people in that rushed the stage. They were pushing and shoving and stepping on us. Security had to come. You pay big $ for good seats and then that happens. Parking was a nightmare. I won't go back. Canceled our tickets to Zac Brown this weekend.

Elton great venue not so much

by Lily on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Loved hearing Elton favorites, but guess I have turned into a fuddy duddy. Seats were hard to locate, especially in dim lights. No safety lighting in the aisleways, especially for steep climbs up. Exuberant fans "woo-woos" directly into ones ears was actually painful. With the loudness of the speakers and the deep base, it was hard to even understand what he was singing on the lesser known songs. (Sorry, I don't know them ALL by heart.) Attendance was a courtesy to a friend as attending one of his concerts was on her bucket list. As for Chase Field, they needed more people who could answer questions about how to find ones seats.

by AG on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

What a great show. The sound system, the visual effects all made this one fantastic concert. Elton still has it after all these years.

    Great Show!!

by Sand Man on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

This was an incredible show. Elton John played like he was 30 years younger - great energy and set list. The venue was top notch - sound was impressive for a ball field.

He was wonderful, however, I wish he carried his mic when he left his piano, so we couldd hear what he was saying...

Grateful for opportunity to see final performance of legend

by LJinAZ on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Well organized event. Acoustics were a bit muddled. Musicianship was soooo tight. Band was right on the money. The talent was obvious. The location, timing and parking etc which is outside of the even itself was a problem. Good Bye Elton. Thank you for the magic of your music.

    Mind blowing

by Cindy on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

I purchased the tickets for Elton back in May last year during the presale and the ticket price was to good to be true! The seats we had were good, only wish the main video screen would have been higher. Other than that to see Elton for my first time was amazing. 2 solid hours of his greatest hits!
