THE B-52S IN CONCERT:
Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.
Great show, in a intimate theatre. We loved it ,and the band were fab just as we remembered.
Have been a fan for over 30 years and this was my third show. Knew 95% of the songs and they sounded pretty good. Wish they would’ve played more from Cosmic Thing but it was good to hear a variety of their songs. It was an energetic show and the sections around me stood and danced the whole time! I loved it but some around me did not. I was on the lower level. Gonna miss these guys!
I thought they were good and tight and the girls especially were great but I reckon the volume needed to be louder especially in such a small venue. Roam is one of my favourite songs ever but it just sounded a bit quiet and flat. Played all the hits and hardly missed a beat. Fred and Cindy have great chemistry. Enjoy!
Great show! They sounded great! The opening act dj was good but too long.
The whole concert was magnificent! They sounded just like they did 45 years ago. Very entertaining and a fun show. A lot of people were dancing in front of their seat and singing along with the B 52's. After all this time, I never knew that the high-pitched sound in "Planet Claire"was an actual voice. Unbelievable! Also, a shout out to the D.J. Coulbord. (not sure of the spelling). Great job, he was very entertaining too! Fun for the whole family!
Enjoyed Rock Lobster and Love Shack! Their remaining songs were ok - similar sounding and a bit boring. Many people walked out and never returned.. My date also did not like it and walked out. Fortunately he returned! Start time listed at 8:30pm - actual time 9:05pm. Opening act DJ Cummerbund was awesome - but not announced.
The band rocked, particularly the drummer. Kate, Fred and Cindy are starting to show their age in the vocals department but they still put on a good show.
We enjoyed seeing the B-52's live in concert. It brought back so many great memories, especially for me in the 80's. I had a cassette tape of all their greatest hits back then, and they WERE the greatest party band! The one thing I didn't care for was the way too long video compilation of old and new artists with DJ Cummerbund. He is VERY talented with his mashups, but it went on WAY too long. Really fun performance by the B-52's who are all in their 70's! Incredible energy and charisma on stage. I'd say Kate.Pierson carried the show. Loved it!
You can’t go wrong with the venue at the Venetian resort. Every seat that venue is a good seat. We were about 10 rows from the front. My wife and I have always been big fans of the B-52’s. Getting in and out of the venue is quick and easy. Sound quality of the show was fantastic. Everyone had a great time. I would definitely go back to another concert at the Venetian and probably will.
Great performance, beautiful theatre! Only thing, unexpected wit DJ Cumberbund as the opening act. He had a fun performance; didn’t expect an opening band/performer. Fun night!
