About

Basile on Tour

In addition to giving us democracy, geometry, and the Olympics, Greece also gave us Basile (pronounced "basil," like the herb). The Greco-American comedian with Ikarian roots continues his Dysfunctionally Yours world tour, a family-friendly show that features uniquely Hellenic observations on "yaiyas" (Greek grandmothers), peanut butter, education, priests, aging parents, and - as Basile once put it in an interview - "the hell of living in a conservative household in a wide-open American society."

Dysfunctionally Yours follows Basile's one-man show, Growing Up Greek in America, whose DVD has sold more than a million copies. Basile has performed for more than 30 years, alternating between comedy stages and Greek-American churches and social halls. His pride in the Hellenic community, culture, faith, and history are important aspects of his comedy. In 2016, he received the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association Achievement Award in the Arts.

Basile Background

Basile Katsikis was born in New Jersey in 1960 and grew up on Long Island. He played football while attending college in Ohio and, after enrolling in law school, abandoned his studies for a career in comedy.

Basile is a popular voice actor who has been heard in Japanese anime as the voice of Bullwinkle J. Moose in The Bullwinkle Show and as sports commentator Jimmy the Greek in ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series. His many comedy TV show appearances include A&E's Comedy on the Road, Showtime's Comedy Club Network, and MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour. Basile's live CDs include Basile Unleashed and A Pinch of Basile. The latter title is also the name of his weekly podcast, during which Basile interviews Greek-American athletes, politicians, chefs, and performers.

His entrepreneurial activities extended to the culinary sector with his Basile Foods line of spices. The connection? As he explains in a monologue, whenever he asked his parents to allow him to set up a lemonade stand, "My father would look at me and say, 'You idiot, we have a restaurant.'"

Don’t Waste Your Time or $$

by Anonymous on 5/20/18Silver Legacy - Reno

I have seen live entertainment throughout the world. Harry Basil was the worst ever. Most of his act wasn’t funny in the least. He made fun of several persons in the audience, over and over, to be the point of being absolutely rude. Don’t waste your time or money!
