    Not the Nutcracker

by SGT Kim K on 12/10/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This show should have been advertised as " A Christmas Musical" not the Nutcracker with a twist. There were some elements of the Nutcracker in it, however it was filled with too many acts with little kids at their first recital, and the last 3 acts were hip hop. There was one song that said "Santa Smells" and I feel that was totally inappropriate. I will pass on future shows by this dance group.

    G

by Nick on 12/7/22Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

It was fun! It was cool to see the different stages of development that the school has for their students. I think the audio was too loud though. I wasn't expecting it to be so loud for a theater performance, but that might be my mistake. I usually wear earplugs to music concerts, but didn't think I would need them for this - I was wrong. I know this is the constant battle of sound people.. it has to be loud enough to get over the noise of the crowd, so I do understand that. I just wish it could be a bit quieter.. without earplugs, I was wincing at the volume level a lot, particularly on those harsh piccolo sounds, high sung notes, and snare drums in the audio.

    Dance recital in disguise

by J on 12/7/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I fell for Ticketmaster’s creative writing/marketing. This was a dance recital put on by Dance Art. The name and description made it sound like a play. It was painful to sit through. No real storyline. Different aged kids would perform to blaring music. I felt bamboozled

    Covid superspreader

by Roger on 12/7/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I was horrified to see 80 children ( unvaccinated) crowded on a stage without masks in the middle of a pandemic. What kind of organization and parents would put there children at risk like that? There were also a large numbers of people in the audience without masks, and no apparent efforts to get them to mask. The noise level was so high it was painful. We left after 20 minutes, and doubt we will return to any performance at Duke Performance Hall anytime soon. What a travesty.

    Amazing show!

by Tiny dancer on 12/7/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Nutcracker with a Twist was a wonderful performance. The dancers, music, and props made it so much fun to experience. The staff at the theatre were very friendly and helpful.

Show was good. Kids loved it. Seats sold were not.

by Kaceol14 on 12/7/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Ticketmaster sold us seats that were directly behind the cameraman. He said that they normally don’t sell any tickets around him since he needs so much room. The ushers moved us…into someone else’s seat. We had to change seats multiple times. Once we found seats that weren’t sold, the show was good. The kids loved it and now my daughter wants to be a ballerina.

    Moments

by Phylly on 12/7/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Enjoyed the performance for the most part. It would of been more enjoyable if the people around me stopped talking. The "little" ones were so cute.
