Corduroy on Tour

"A bear. A button. A place to belong."

Emerald City Theatre's beloved production of Corduroy returns to Chicago just in time for the holidays! In this sweet adaptation of Don Freeman's classic book, a small bear's quest for a missing button leads to the friendship of a lifetime. After the lights are dimmed and the doors locked, the department store comes to life with circus elements and physical comedy. It's up to Corduroy to outsmart the Night Watchman as he waits for his new pal Lisa to return with her mother. Along with exciting scenes of clowning and mischief, the story teaches the importance of empathy and unconditional love. Tailored for young imaginations, this playful adventure will delight ages three and up!

Based on the Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy books by Don Freeman

    Kids loved it

by Dannyboy on 1/3/20Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

We brought out three and four year old grandchildren to their first live play. While it took a little while for them to "get it" that there were live people performing (rather than something they watch on TV) they really settled in and enjoyed the story and the acting. The creative way the cast engaged the audience really made it an all around great experience for them. Hats off the the creative people who wrote this from the 50+ year old book. We bought the book for our two grandchildren for Christmas and read it a few times prior to seeing the show- so that helped- sad thing is they probably will never understand what a department store is in the future!

    Lovely show

by Julie on 12/31/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

We love the books and this show brought the magic to life. My daughter is 6 and loved every minute. Funny, sweet and very interactive for the kids. Just the right length too.

    Great Little Play

by Katie on 12/31/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

We took my 1 year old son to this. He enjoyed himself. I liked that they incorporated sign language into the play. I also think the Night Watchman was FANTASTIC.

    Just okay

by K. T. on 12/28/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

It was a nice theater and though snacks were expensive, they were good enough. The play itself felt stretched and the plot wasn’t exactly true to the storyline. I wouldn’t buy these tickets again.

    Grandson’s annual theater outing

by Tim on 12/25/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was our second holiday performance with our grandson and even better than last year. Cute show, good acting and endearing characters made for another memorable event.

    Wonderful show!

by Carol on 12/23/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

It was a lovely story. The cast was talented and really engaged with the children. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the children were.

    Corduroy is terrific!

by LK on 12/23/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Took a 4 and 2 year old to see Corduroy. They loved it! Such a nice story of friendship. It was funny, sweet, and fun. All the kids in the theater were laughing, shouting out things when prompted and having fun. A great experience, and an hour is just enough time without being too much.

    Corduroy is a hit!

by L. on 12/21/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This play adaptation of the classic book, at just about an hour in lengthm is exactly right for 4 yr. olds and probably up to 6 or 7. It sticks mainly to the original story, and if it did't, it could disappoint young fans. It has action; it has lessons; it keeps moving. The actors come into the audience a bit. This theater had wonderful sight lines for kids and adults. It kept the attention of my 4 yr. old guest the entire time!

A show for a younger audience (2-7 years old)

by Chicago Gurl on 12/10/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

My family and I attended Corduroy, unfortunately, the show is for a much younger demographic than my children (ages 8 and 10), who did not enjoy it. However, the toddlers (2-5) were laughing and really enjoying themselves. It was wonderful hearing the laughter of the young children. The show is one hour long.
