    Too much downtime

by Char on 9/4/23The Black Academy of Arts & Letters Complex - Dallas

We went on Friday night. The Tina Turner tribute and of course Stephanie Mills were both incredible performances. There should have been jazz musicians or a dj playing jazz while we waited between sets. I was disappointed in that downtime.

    THE Stephanie DAMN Mills

by Britney on 9/4/23The Black Academy of Arts & Letters Complex - Dallas

An experience was had!!! Stephanie Mills was phenomenal, her voice felt like we were listening to her recordings. She was in perfect pitch. Her back ups were amazing. It was really a great show. I hope she tours!

    Stephanie Mills

by Travis on 9/4/23The Black Academy of Arts & Letters Complex - Dallas

Disappointed in the arena set up. The seats were very far from the stage and the tables were half empty. Her performance was NOT festival quality. She was on stage less than 1 hour. The after party at the Loft was on point

    HORRIBLE WAIT TIME BETWEEN ACTS!!!

    by Philly Jeff on 9/2/23

This event would have been outstanding if it wasn’t for the wait time between acts … Why not put a DJ between the sets … That’s the difference in having a top production crew … The staff was great …. Then after the long wait the jazz was a slow vibe which made the energy dead!!

Too loud & long wait time

    by JP on 9/2/23

OMG the music was too loud to enjoy! Covered my ears for most of Najee’s performance. 40 minutes in between acts ???? Put in some ear plugs to help with next performance….I’m sitting here waiting for Lalah Hathaway who is now 1 hr and 14 minutes late ???? Totally wasted my time, money and energy. Never again

    Logistics Needs Work

by Partyplanner on 9/4/19The Black Academy of Arts & Letters Complex - Dallas

Though we enjoyed ourselves we did not like having to chug down our drinks when going to another section where artist that we wanted to see were. Maybe select one beverage vendor so festival goers can buy from any bar and move around freely.

    Great Performers

by Cherryl on 9/4/19The Black Academy of Arts & Letters Complex - Dallas

This is my 3rd year to attending the Riverfront Jazz Festival. The guest lineup this year and the years prior are great. However, the breakdown and set up between each performer is horrible, too much wasted time which took away from the overall enjoyment. By this being the 3rd year I would think that the glitches would have been worked out by now and I believe if this isn't smooth out by the 5th year this festival will die. I travel from out of state to come to this event to hear the great jazz legends, new and old, and when it comes to that I have no complaints; they are true professionals-they give their all. It's the other stuff that need to be tightened up. The schedule (with 2 stages not enough time between each set to move around), too much time for set up/breakdown and with each day being chocked full of entertainment ; no time to eat without missing something, and too few food trucks and lines too long so again a set gets missed. My 3 star rating is only because of the technical problems and not the entertainment because all the performers have been fantastic.

    "Fantastic Festival"

by Wendy on 9/4/19The Black Academy of Arts & Letters Complex - Dallas

The festival was fantastic!. The event kicked off with local artist Shaun Martin and his band which really set the mood for prime time partying that was to be had all weekend long. Erykah Badu was the festival headliner and she did not disappoint. The range of artist featured was so diverse ranging from music legends such as Jennifer Holiday, Oleta Adams, Patti Austin and Roy Ayers. We were also introduced to local artists who were so talented. Who knew Dallas had so many talented professional musicians. My only disappoint was that the wait time in between shows was rather long and the sound for some of the bands was very loud. When I attend next year I will make it a point to attend performances of the upcoming artist to make better use of my time. The sound system for Loose Ends was off and the bass towards the end was loud, but they gave a stellar performance and we toughed it out because we did not want to miss any part of their act. The venue was perfect. We stayed downtown and were able to walk to and from the venue from our hotel. This is my second year attending. I invited friends and family to attend with me this year and they showed up. I will extend the invitation to more for the 2020 Riverfront Jazz Festival. Thank you Curtis King for bringing this event to Dallas!

    Year 3

by D. on 9/4/19The Black Academy of Arts & Letters Complex - Dallas

Overall the event was good.. We will be going again next year. There was confusion regarding which stages the artist would be performing on do to some changes that were made... Ensuring that the artist start on time or close to it, is always helpful. It is only the third year for this event... It will definately get better.
