    Explosive!

An awesome play. Full of life, character, and spunk. Kept me interested and the play followed the script/movie as I remember. I would definitely want to recommend this play and I would want to see again. All characters were amazing.

    Fabulous talent, mediocre script

by Baklas on 8/4/18Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

It might just be because I love the film so much, but I found this presentation a bit disappointing. The characters were poorly developed and the script seemed to be more of a musical review than musical theater. It was particularly sad since the performers were of the highest caliber. Just a bit of a let down.

    Amazing Vocals

by SwayAmi on 8/3/18Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The Auditorium Theatre is my favorite theatre in Chicago. I visit Chicago monthly and make sure to see a show at this venue. During this trip, I went to see the color purple. This is a very hard book to bring to the stage and I do wish it flowed a little better and had background changes with each scene however, the singing took the show, it was amazing. Every actor had an amazing voice and what a powerful presence on stage.

    Great music, fair acoustics

by BGitel on 8/1/18Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The show would have been so much more enjoyable if we could only have been able to understand the words. Not sure if this was a venue problem or just that the actors were not clear.

    Color Purple

    by PJoe1 on 8/1/18Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

I was a little disappointed in the show in that I could often not understand the lyrics as they were being sung. Also some of the narrative was hard to understand. We attended with another couple who said the same thing.

Wonderfully transitioned to he stage, but the musics was too loud and it was hard hearing the dialogue.

It was average...not what I expected!

    by Thatteacherlady1 on 7/31/18Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

I understand this was "Broadway", but I expected a little bit more talking. If I did not know the story already, I would have had a difficult time following because the singing was not articulated enough for me to hear what was being said all of the time. Maybe it was the venue. I'm not sure, but because The Color Purple is one of my favorite books, I was not all that happy with the performance. It was entertaining but average.
