amazing multi-talented cast - amazing production of great music !
Did not know what to expect.. Turns out to be a high school quality written show of a story centered around the lyrics and images of Cumberland Blues...It has basic covers of partial songs and a story line that has nothing to do with the Dead, their roots, existence, or Jerry. For me a high note ( pun intended) was that each actor is very musically talented, playing several instruments...I thought the play would be a more personal look at perhaps some key moments in the Dead's history turned into a theatrical explanation/exploration/enlightenment...It really has nothing to do with the Dead at all except for the partial renditions of some songs...So for $88 for a decent seat I'd say if you can swing it, sure go check it out. Otherwise don't get anxiety over missing it, like you would,if you couldn't get off work and had to pass on a ticket to see the band "In the Day" at Red Rocks on the night of an eclipse...
As a lifetime fan of the Grateful Dead, this show was an absolutely magical experience. Most of the cast is probably too young to have ever seen Jerry Garcia in concert, but they do an amazing job bringing the songs to life and creating a fun, singalong worthy experience for everyone. Not only can this cast sing and dance and act, each member also plays no fewer than four instruments throughout the show, further proving how talented they are. It is a beautiful performance that will make you laugh, cry, sing, dance and be absolutely blown away. I hope it travels. I hope they make an album.
Music was very well performed. Good selections. Ripple was my only knock - it should be performed by the band not a solo. The story is awful/stupid and the acting and dancing was embarrassingly bad - unless you like constant shoving and jumping in lieu of a coherent dialogue. The southern accents sounded like something a 10 year old would sound like if you ask them to do an imitation. Further you couldn't hear half of what the actors said as they were poorly miked (maybe this was a good thing)
As a Deadhead I feared the worst but hoped very much for the best. My fears were realized. Cartoonish, horribly over acted, and aside from very nice versions of Ripple and Box of Rain the music had absolutely no heart or connection to the actors. The music of the Grateful Dead deserves better, and so do you. Save your money and put on any live or studio recording of the Dead and you'll have a far better time.
Nice show, good music, story line was funny overall well done performance.
A truly enjoyable evening. It was just so upbeat and fun. Sang and danced. The vocals were fabulous.
The play was so much fun. It was nice the way they were able to put the songs to a story line. They have on both sides of the theater stand up and boogie seating. The last two songs the entire audience was dancing. The actors and actresses were amazing the voices were everything you would see in a Broadway Play. I would recommend going and bring a bunch of friends. Perfect location too!!!
Show was so entertaining and fun. Cast did a great job! Music was perfect and a treat for Deadheads! We loved it!!!
My fellow Deadhead and I went to the show. We enjoyed the storyline and use of Grateful Dead tunes. We were able to jump out of our seats and dance! The cast was enthusiastic and the theater was small enough to fell cozy.
