Rick did such a great job entertaining us. Looked and sounded just like John. They could have been twins. Would definitely see him again!

Fun, festive and nostalgic! Loved every minute!

by Candy on 12/14/23The Pageant - St Louis

Rick put on such an awesome show. He is so talented - just a man with a guitar and a beautiful voice and he wowed the crowd for 2 hours. His concert feels more like sitting in a room with an old friend talking and laughing and singing. Definitely worth seeing!! Loved it!

    Talkative fellow

by Daisy on 12/13/23The Pageant - St Louis

The guy had great voice. Just wish he sing more, I know it's xmas so he has to do the xmas favorites. We could have gotten 8 or 10 more hits we all wanted to hear, if he would just quit talking. It wasn't even interesting.

    Rick Schuler

by Mary on 12/13/23The Pageant - St Louis

Rick did a really good job! And the venue was set up festive for Christmas! The only issue we had was they had roads blocked off so we had to park and walk!

    Trip Down Memory Lane

by Diane on 12/13/23The Pageant - St Louis

Thoroughly enjoyed Rocky Mountain High Experience. Brought back many happy memories and experiences I had as a young adult. Listening to the songs and remembering everything John represented and how he brought that awareness of the love of nature in each of us. Thank you, Rick for a happy, memorable afternoon. I look forward to the next time you are in St. Louis.

    Senses Filled Up

by Mother Road Madman on 12/13/23The Pageant - St Louis

Rick Schuler Music's Christmas Concert at the Pageant was special. It was a chance visit to WMAY/WQLZ a number of years ago when I encountered Robert Fithen. I had been dismissive of the 70s songs that I had once loved like the work of John Denver. He heads out for the day and I hear Annie's Song pouring out of the speakers and it was a revelation. Not only did such music still have a place in my heart but just hearing a better audio representation of his work really flushed out the great aroma of his music. Well, when I found out about a John Denver Show at the Pageant, I thought count me in. Some of those songs sing to me and where I'm at in life. It takes a special performance to go up to a big stage where acts like Soundgarden have commanded attention and just perform solo siting on the barstool like you're singing to old friends. Rick Schuler is not a mere mimic or two hour nostalgia bath. His storytelling on stage is great mixing John Denver's perspective and his own as an archaeologist and someone who has felt more and more connected to Denver over the years. There is no Strawberry Fields easy gathering spot to do that but he offers a fascinating tale or two to tell you how he got there. It was a Christmas show and there was the right mix of Christmas tunes but of course you don't come to that show just wanting to hear Carols. Rocky Mountain High is sampled early on and you think that was good but geez I would have liked to have heard the whole thing. Well that moment would come with a great payoff, including a singalong part that was fun for the audience but didn't' dilute his performance. "Fly Away"was a moment where it really struck me how much he bottled John Denver's essence and blended it with his own talent. Like Denver's originals, his vocals took you to higher elevations and away from all the noise of today's world. "Sunshine on My Shoulders"had some great bonus storytelling and was a top rate moving performance. "I'm Sorry"hits such a nerve and I know it's had to hit a nerve for many over the years. That song takes you back to those heavy moments when someone you love walks out of your life and no matter how much or how little was your fault, there were things you wish you could have done differently. It's like a time machine, you hear that song and you picture her car leaving the last time and that empty feeling when it's over. Now some folks don't see the benefit of such songs and the record companies sure don't. Well I sure do because sometimes only a song understands how you feel. You don't have to justify how you feel. One of the brilliant moments was a song Rick made about what John Denver would say if he were alive today about how we're at each other's throats over politics etc. Back to "Annie's Song". His very personal story of feeling a greater connection to John Denver was such a great lead in to this masterpiece. High expectations are a big hill to climb in performing this song, especially since there are occasional performances with an orchestra in our memories. Rick hit it out of the park with a soothing and powerful performance that took the experience to the next level. "Thank God I'm a Country Boy"was top shelf and "Take Me Home, Country Roads"delivered. He just tapped into that feeling of that song. Even though it's not a Christmas song, it's everything the Holidays are supposed to be about. Then there's "Leaving on a Jet Plane". Denver’s song soared to greater heights with Peter, Paul and Mary but each version has its own spirit. I think that song hit a great nerve, especially with the singalong part because I know a number of folks in the audience could relate to the era, saying goodbye to someone whose draft number was called and they were off to Vietnam. Would they come back? Would we be the same? Rick, thanks for coming home to St. Louis. I look forward to your next visit. Julie Lena Lally

Too much Rick and not enough John!

by Reggie on 12/13/23The Pageant - St Louis

The music was great, but Rick spent too much time talking about himself and archeology instead of John Denver.
