The ballet was wonderful!
by BetteL on 11/28/19Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleI took my 5 year old granddaughter to see this ballet because she loves the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale and also because she loves to dance and is fascinated with ballet dancers. Because the description said it was the Ft. Lauderdale Children’s Ballet Theater I thought that it was geared for children. It was my granddaughter’s first time seeing a ballet and she loved it. She wanted to tap her feet to the music and being a normal 5 year old she didn’t sit perfectly still. This apparently bothered the usher who was seated near us since several times she told my granddaughter to sit still. At intermission she told me that I should take my granddaughter to the lobby so that she could get rid of some of her energy. We were late arriving to the theater due to traffic congestion to get into the parking garage so were seated in the middle of the first act. Someone was sitting in our seats and the usher ordered us to sit in the two seats that were vacant which were not the seats I paid for. The ballet performance was wonderful but the usher really spoiled our enjoyment of the show. If children are not wanted at this performance it should have been noted on the website. Due to this usher’s comments I felt that my granddaughter was not welcome and I probably will refrain from buying tickets to this theater in the future.
