About

A Chicago original and international hit, LATE NITE CATECHISM started in a Chicago storefront theater in 1993, and is still going strong.
Call it Carol Burnett meets Whoopi Goldberg. This interactive comedy is part catechism class, part stand-up routine. Since its beginning, LATE NITE CATECHISM has been performed in almost every major U.S. city, plus has done successful stints in Australia, England, Ireland, Canada, and Malaysia.
The New York Times calls it, "hilarious, well-written and inspired." Jeffrey Lyons from TV’s Sneak Previews calls LATE NITE CATECHISM "something to savor and enjoy....one of the most intimate, rewarding shows in town."
The role of Sister, the wise-cracking, lovable character of LATE NITE CATECHISM, was created in 1993 by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan, both products of the Catholic school system.
Among the many reviews it has received, the New York Times called LATE NITE CATECHISM “hilarious, well-written, and inspired,” the Chicago Reader called it “gloriously funny,” and the Catholic Explorer called it “a habit-forming hoot!”
Schools and parishes throughout the United States have used all of these shows as a way of raising much-needed money to balance their budgets. In addition, the shows are used to help raise retirement funds for Sisters. Since the collections started, LATE NITE CATECHISM has generated donations of well over $3 million, which has been sent to various orders of nuns throughout the United States.

    Late Nite Catechism

by Gvm on 6/21/23Pensacola Saenger Theatre - Pensacola

I felt the presenter was at a huge disadvantage as her luggage with props and her “gifts” had not come from the airlines. She really seemed to be off, and that was understandable due to the luggage issue. Points were really funny but over all it was just fair.

    Late Nite Catechism

by Shotsie on 3/3/20Gracie Theatre - Bangor

OMG!! Denise Fennell is hilarious! First time I saw the show and I can’t wait until she returns to Bangor. She was very witty and sharp throughout the entire performance. Everyone coming out of the Gracie Theatre just raved about her performance. She is very talented to say the least and kept the audience engaged the entire time. Thanks for all the great laughs Denise!

    A great evening

by Catholic Hooligan on 2/19/20Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This experience was lots of fun. Especially for an old Catholic school survivor as I am. The references to my childhood experiences sparked lots of great memories for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire performance. And the actress performing was very knowledgeable and gave a great performance.

    Bring a crowd!

by Sisabelle on 1/22/20Royal George Theatre - Chicago

The fun is in the interaction of the audience so make this a group outing with friends and family. Whether you went to catholic school or are a “public” you are bound to enjoy this adult catechism lesson. Oh, and unlike catholic school, there’s a bar open during “recess”! 😂

    Late Night Catechism ... Outstanding

by Homesteader on 1/21/20Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Excellent. Outstanding. A very fast two hours. Two straight hours of comedy combined with audience involvement. A funny performance for everyone but even more so if you attended parochial school with nuns and were raised as a Catholic.

    Amazing, intimate, and absolutely hilarious!

by Anand on 1/15/20Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This show was incredible! Sister never breaks character and pulls you into the show and transports you back to Sunday School. So so funny! Highly recommend.
