Really, really disappointed...
by L. C. on 6/19/19The Cabot - BeverlyWe bought tickets to the Zealyn concert because we wanted to support our local talent Angie Miller (Zealyn)! What really disappointed us was that the first one hour and forty minutes was for two seperate musical groups that had NOTHING to do with the Zealyn concert!!!!! This was NOT part of the promotional materials for the Zealyn concert and was totally unexpected and unwanted!!!! When Zealyn finally took the stage it was 9:45 PM. I was impressed with the energy and passion that she brought to her performance! Angie definitely has a great voice and is very talented! That said, I believe that she could benefit greatly by toning down the audio levels of her performances!!! Angie, like all too many performers are guided by the myth that louder is better. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!!! Singing at the top of her voice dynamics greatly reduces the clarity and understandability (diction) of what she is singing about. Zealand, like so many performers would benefit greatly from studying many of the great vocalist, like Perry Cuomo, Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, The Three Tenors, Ella Fitzgerald, or Celine Dion just to name a few. They NEVER had to shout or scream to deliver their vocal performances!!! They instead relied on their great voices to get the message and intent across to their audiences! They truly understand that less is more! Of course I also realize that Zealyn is, in part, not in total control of how loud her voice is heard, and that the audio control panel technician has the overall control, by raising or lowering the amplifier level. But Zealyn, needs to be firm about how her voice is heard, because, in the end it is HER concert that people are paying the enjoy! Her audiences are NOT paying to analyze the ability of the sound technicians! Lastly I wish that Zealyn, could have watched some of the aviation safety meetings that I attended in the military, where they showed how repeated exposure to loud noises can cause permanent and total hearing loss. Often the particular examples showed that condition in the ears of rock musicians! I truly hope that when Angie's children graduate from high school or college and deliver a commencement speach, that she will be able to actually hear it!
