Anderson .Paak in Concert
Presenting the artist in a top hat and plaid boxer shorts as he plays piano in the surf amid a smattering of objects like an old-school record player, the surreal cover image for Anderson .Paak's breakthrough album perfectly suited its wildly inventive contents. Full of witty, unpredictable songs and styles that ranged from â60s soul to â90s hip-hop to vanguard R&B, âMalibu' became one of 2016's most acclaimed albums, establishing its creator as a maverick whose imagination can seem virtually limitless. Along with a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, the album earned Anderson .Paak another Grammy nod for Best New Artist along with similar acknowledgements at the Soul Train Music Awards and the BET Hip Hop Awards.
All that marked a long journey from Anderson .Paak's first foray into music, which was playing drums in church growing up in Oxnard, California. After coming to Los Angeles, he sought to establish himself as a session musician while creating his own sounds under the moniker Breezy Lovejoy. His fortunes rose when he began working for Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra, the revered L.A. hip-hop duo and production team. His new confidence inspired him to drop his former handle in favor of Anderson .Paak, a stylized version of his real name. The buzz got louder with the release of his wildly diverse debut, âVenice' (2014), and his contributions to albums by Dr. Dre and The Game. And while he fully proved his capabilities with âMalibu,' it was âYes Lawd!' (2016) by NxWorries â his duo with producer Knxwledge â as well as shows with his band The Free Nationals that confirmed he's just as compelling with close collaborators on hand as when he's pursuing his singular vision.
His third album and first since signing to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, âOxnard' sees Anderson .Paak introduce yet more colors in his palette, beginning with Technicolor textures, carnivalesque soundscape, and his own exuberant flow in "Bubblin'," the album's first single. And with his return to stages with The Free Nationals, Anderson .Paak is ready to make good on his reputation as one of the exciting new talents in hip-hop and R&B.

Second time seeing him. Great show. Great venue, no complaints!
He can sing, rap, drum, dance....all at once. Great show!
This concert from start to finish was amazing. From the time we arrived at the venue to the very last song we had a good time. Thundercat, Noname, and Anderson .Paak did a fantastic job performing and my husband & I were seriously considering buying tickets to a show in another city just to see it all over again.
The view of the city in the background with the music makes the place feel special. đ„°
super superb. anderson .paak brought all the energy and gusto one might expect. and then some. the free nationals performed with immense charisma. loved the vocalists. perfect color scheme, as well.
Anderson is a straight performer. Played everything from Venice to Ventura and in between. I hope he has a live recording of his show that he will put out. Just a concert the is incomparable. Looking forward to him coming back again.
I just want to say I wouldnât mind paying to see his show over and over again. They were that dope!!!
Really enjoyed Anderson .Paak, Noname & Thundercat!!! They were all full of energy, musicality & this was hands down one of the best concerts Iâve ever been too. I really appreciated that it was billed as an electronic ticket event (less waste). The event started on time & ended on time! It was very hot that day and my only suggestion was that water shouldâve been provided for GA, and not just GA pit. I personally saw 4 people wheeled off by EMS due to what appeared to be heat exhaustion. Would definitely come back to Champions Square for a TM concert.
Anderson gave a GREAT performance for the Best Teef In The Game Tour. The show started on time and the entire experience was amazing. He kept everyone dancing and having a good time. ThunderCat and NoName were also openers and had great sets as well. Money well spent.
Nice and simple, he puts on a great show, moves the crowd, and has a live band that makes the show unmatched. Is on par or better than hearing the audio from your phone.
Because of the weather (which was fine, mind you), the doors were delayed opening, which shortened Thundercat's set to about 25-30 minutes which was disappointing because that's who I was most looking forward to. Then, my friend and I decided to get food in between Thundercat and Noname's sets. There were a total of 4 lines for food in the entire facility, and we unfortunately spent ALL of Noname's set waiting in one of these lines. This location needs more lines and for their concessions employees to be better trained. (The guy at the register literally stood there waiting for our food to be ready rather than getting our drinks or taking the next person's order. We had to remind him to pour our sodas and grab our water bottles twice.)
The production value of the show was so impressive, Iâm surprised that I only paid $68 for my ticket. The sound was crystal clear, the technical aspects such as lights and visuals were so vibrant, and nobody missed a single note. I was very, very impressed with this show!
Going into this show, I had preconceptions that it would be a great live performance. However, Paak and his band, the Free Nationals, definitely exceeded my expectations. I look forward to telling my friends about the experience, and can't wait to catch another live performance. Also, the openers (Thundercat & NoName) were a perfect setup to the main event.
Loved the energy, the visuals, and his set list/transitions!!
Anderson Paak was absolutely incredible. He is a true performer at heart and was running around on stage back and forth on the drum set. He really outdid himself. Also, the weather was perfect for it being outdoors in New Orleans in June. Will definitely look forward to seeing him again!
The show was a masterpiece from start to finish. The visuals, energy and music were incomparable. The audience went home elated. Best Teef in the Game tour was a spiritual experience. YES LAWD âĄ
2nd Paak concert this year, just gets better every time.
Even though there was a threat of rain. We still made it to the concert. So I surprised it was a packed crowd. One of the best concerts this year.
Overly loved the experience of the concert!! It was an awesome vibe!
