About

Anderson .Paak in Concert

Presenting the artist in a top hat and plaid boxer shorts as he plays piano in the surf amid a smattering of objects like an old-school record player, the surreal cover image for Anderson .Paak's breakthrough album perfectly suited its wildly inventive contents. Full of witty, unpredictable songs and styles that ranged from ā€˜60s soul to ā€˜90s hip-hop to vanguard R&B, ā€˜Malibu' became one of 2016's most acclaimed albums, establishing its creator as a maverick whose imagination can seem virtually limitless. Along with a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, the album earned Anderson .Paak another Grammy nod for Best New Artist along with similar acknowledgements at the Soul Train Music Awards and the BET Hip Hop Awards.

All that marked a long journey from Anderson .Paak's first foray into music, which was playing drums in church growing up in Oxnard, California. After coming to Los Angeles, he sought to establish himself as a session musician while creating his own sounds under the moniker Breezy Lovejoy. His fortunes rose when he began working for Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra, the revered L.A. hip-hop duo and production team. His new confidence inspired him to drop his former handle in favor of Anderson .Paak, a stylized version of his real name. The buzz got louder with the release of his wildly diverse debut, ā€˜Venice' (2014), and his contributions to albums by Dr. Dre and The Game. And while he fully proved his capabilities with ā€˜Malibu,' it was ā€˜Yes Lawd!' (2016) by NxWorries ā€“ his duo with producer Knxwledge ā€“ as well as shows with his band The Free Nationals that confirmed he's just as compelling with close collaborators on hand as when he's pursuing his singular vision.

His third album and first since signing to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, ā€˜Oxnard' sees Anderson .Paak introduce yet more colors in his palette, beginning with Technicolor textures, carnivalesque soundscape, and his own exuberant flow in "Bubblin'," the album's first single. And with his return to stages with The Free Nationals, Anderson .Paak is ready to make good on his reputation as one of the exciting new talents in hip-hop and R&B.

Anderson was INCREDIBLE, the openers, however...

by A. Stang on 7/1/19Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Anderson Paak put on an absolutely fantastic and fun show. He interacted well with the crowd and was full of energy. I danced my butt off and enjoyed every minute of his performance. Thundercat's set was okay, but the sound really wasn't well balanced. I also wish he would've interacted with the crowd a bit more. Earl Sweatshirt was a huge disappointment. I've been a fan of Odd Future for a long time and was excited to finally get to see Earl Sweatshirt live, but his set was dull and underwhelming. He just walked around the stage, hardly facing the audience, and rapped. No interaction with the crowd and no showmanship to speak of. It seemed like he didn't want to be there (though I understand touring is exhausting, so maybe he was just tired?).

    SO MUCH FUN!

by A. D. on 7/1/19Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Anderson's energy is so live! I was with my best friend and that was literally so much fun. His background singers, other musicians, and all the theatrics really made the show pop. Really great performer and engages with the crowd by coming down to the ground level.

Andersen Paak show was absolutely fire! He definitely knows how to put on a show. There were pyrotechnics and he didnā€™t stop jamming and moving the entire time. He is SO effing multi-talented! One of the best shows Iā€™ve ever seen hands down, and Iā€™ve seen a lot!

by Misha on 6/30/19Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Paak is one of the best performers I've seen. His energy and talent will keep you partying. I could've watch him on stage into the wee hours of the morning. What a great thing to experience. He is a true artist that is certainly on the legend level. I can't wait to see him again. Hopefully he'll come to Oakland next time.

    So much energy

by Jjlee927 on 6/30/19Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Best performer, Iā€™ve seen ever! I have been to more than 50 concerts and this is by far the best Iā€™ve seen. I also attended his tour at the Masonic venue. You can tell when someone really put the work into their craft and that exactly what shows at an Anderson show. Will definitely continue to support him and the Free Nationals. Yes lawd!āœŠšŸæ

by Moedigliani on 6/29/19Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU - San Diego

.Paak! Heā€™s the ultimate entertainer, packing rhymes, vocals, drumming and dancing. Itā€™s fun to watch somebody having so much fun doing his thing. Big ups to the VisFX designer - the stage, lighting and effects really made for a memorable performance. The venue was amazing and intimate. The Merch line was quick and all the designs were fire! I regret not copping more

Great performance and great show. Just wish there was more concession/beer lines but thatā€™s a reflection of the venue not Ticketmaster.
