Alfa Mist is a composer and MC from East London who blends hip-hop with jazz improvisation. Creating what The Guardian described as “genre-transcending music” that is “unwavering in its brilliance,” Alfa Mist’s jazz-infused compositions are rooted in his youth studies of samples by hip-hop legends like Madlib, Black Star and J Dilla. These production touchstones can be heard on his critically-acclaimed debut album Antiphon (2017). On his fifth album — 2023’s Variables — the “shape-shifting wonder” expands his sonic palette to produce fully-realized and introspective pieces like “4th Feb (Stay Awake)” and “BC.” In April 2023, Alfa Mist embarked on a lengthy Variables world tour.
