University of Texas Longhorns Football History

The Texas Longhorns are not only one of the most successful college football programs ever, they’re also central to the culture of the sport. The Longhorns have won four national championships, three of them under Darrell Royal, who was coach from 1957 to 1976. The most recent came in 2006 under coach Mack Brown, with quarterback Vince Young leading the way. That season ended with a Texas victory in the Rose Bowl over USC, in the most watched BCS game in history and regarded as one of the best college football games ever played. Many of the sport's all-time greats have played in Austin, among them the program’s two Heisman Trophy winners, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams, as well as quarterbacks Bobby Layne and Colt McCoy and defensive stars Steve McMichael and Derrick Johnson. Texas is joining the SEC conference in 2024.

Texas’s biggest rivals are the Oklahoma Sooners, and they have clashed annually and uninterrupted since 1929. The Red River Showdown pits the two teams against each other at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, as they compete for the Golden Hat Trophy.

    Close but no cigar

    by T123 on 9/23/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

It was refreshing to see so many burnt orange colors in the stands. Maybe 1000 to 1 Texas vs UCLA. I knew there'd be a lot of disappointed fans after the game, especially after the performance the week before. But Texas gave it the old college try and actually had a chance to win it. So everyone was happy in the end. No blow out to a ranked team is a win in my book.

    Great Game

    by Chuck65 on 9/19/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

This game was played at a neutral sight. Mostly Texas fans were there but A huge UCLA crowd came out to see the game. These are 2 great teams that will perhaps meet again later this year in a bowl. Playing in AT&T Stadium was quite a treat for me as i was able to purchase great seats on the 45 yard line and a great view of the big screen.

    Close but no cigar

    by T123 on 9/17/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

I came to the game no expecting much due to the Longhorns poor performance the week earlier. They lost but it was close at least they didn't embarrass themselves. Good game over all.

    Texas/UCLA

by bevomom on 9/17/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

The game was awesome even though we lost. Would have preferred closer seats but with the jumbotron you can either watch the field or that. Getting to the seats is difficult if you are out of shape in any way because it requires several steps.

    Unforgettable Experience

by KGBRUIN on 9/16/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

Being at AT&T Stadium for the first time was an amazing experience. The stadium itself is incredible, and the staff was very hospitable. Everyone made sure that you were treated as a guest, not just a dollar sign. Kudos to everyone. And it didn't hurt that UCLA won the game.

The stadium itself was incredible. One star off for a lack luster tail gating experience.

    Amazing venue

by longhornhammy on 9/16/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

This was my first time to AT&T Stadium and it really was an amazing place to watch the Longhorns and Bruins play. I have been in thousands of ballparks and sporting arenas and this one would probably rank near the top in terms of comfort and viewing. I prefer watching the game on the field, but the jumbo tron is a great feature. All in all, I was impressed by the Stadium - even the parking (although expensive) was so accessible.

    Great Experience

    by UCLA56 on 9/16/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

Everything was better than expected. No problem with traffic to the game or at the site. Parking situation was excellent, except the price was much higher than other sports venues. Ushers very helpful. Food selection was better than most. Traffic flow after the game was good.
