About

The Office! A Musical Parody

The beloved mockumentary reaches a new level of laughs with The Office! A Musical Parody. Fans of the television series will be happy to know that all their favorite characters are on board, as are some key plot elements. When the original British version of The Office premiered in 2001, it brought something completely new to television comedy. Sure, sitcoms had lampooned office culture before, but never with the cringe-inducing level of awkwardness that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant allowed their characters to display. Then the American Office became an enormous hit series -- and a comedy landmark. In the hands of writers Bob and Tobly McSmith, the stage version adds an unexpected tuneful touch that takes things to another place entirely, and the outrageousness lives on.

The Office! A Musical Parody History

The British send-up of dysfunctional workplace life that was broadcast on BBC from 2001 through 2003 became such a success in America that it couldn't help but inspire a US version. Premiering in 2005, the American Office, starring Steve Carell, lasted for an amazing nine seasons. When Bob and Tobly McSmith took the stateside sitcom series and created a theatrical version, the pair had already let their satirical minds loose on musical takeoffs of everything from Friends to Full House, so by the time they tackled The Office, they were fully primed. But this is far from just a stage re-creation. As a musical parody, the production mines the medium for even more comic gold -- and gives you something to hum on the way home. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the series or getting introduced to the characters for the first time, The Office! A Musical Parody will prove that however insane your own workplace may seem to you, it's comparatively a whole lot more normal than you may think.

    World's Best Show

by Blake on 2/21/24The Theater Center - New York

If you're a big fan of The Office, you'll love this show. Packed full of hilarious inside jokes, I've never laughed so hard. Well put together, great cast, just a fantastic show! The more intimately you know The Office, the funnier the writing is. If you've seen The Office once or twice this isn't the show for you though, the jokes will likely go straight over your head.

    Tired

Basic set and despite an energetic lead some uneven and off performances. Can be missed.

    Awesome show for Office fans!

by CBR on 1/30/24The Theater Center - New York

We really enjoyed this show, we laughed a lot and the actors are quite talented. It was a parody and of course some characters were exaggerated but overall the cast nailed the main characters. Would recommend for office fans!

Day 1 Fan Watches Musical Paroday

by Rad on 1/24/24The Theater Center - New York

Creed staring into my soul was priceless. Thank you Dean Yurecka for that amazing experience. He made sitting in the mid-front row worth every penny. The song Michael and Kelly sung to Ryan is absolute gold. We need the soundtrack on a music streaming service ASAP! And finally shout out Annabelle for portraying Michael Scott perfectly. I will be back very soon..

A must see for fans of The Office!

by meemohito on 1/21/24The Theater Center - New York

If you are a fan of The Office, then you need to see this show! The parodies are creative and hilarious! The entire cast nailed their (multiple) parts with stand-outs Annabelle Grace Woodard as Michael Scott (perfect comedic timing!) and Owen Harrison as Jim & Andy with main-stage-leading-man energy! Tons of fun and cringe-y laughs -- highly recommend.

You’ll like it if you like The Office

by KB on 1/16/24The Theater Center - New York

The actors are talented, but the musical itself is lacking. It’s more sexually crass than the actual show; more hip thrusts/grinding than the show calls for. Bummer not to see Stanley portrayed at all and they could kill the Karen Fillipelli character. The actress was fine, but I didn’t get the constant overt Italian dramatization. All in all, if you’re an Office fan, you’ll like this show, even if only to recall favorite scenes and such. I do hope they make enough to invest more into this show. The lady who played Michael is a top tier performer. All of the performers were great.
