Steve Hackett on Tour

A Steve Hackett show can conjure rock's potential for grandeur and glory. As a guitar hero who made his bones defining the sound of Genesis in the salad days of progressive rock, Hackett learned a thing or two about how to stage a show and how to fill it with elegant, carefully constructed melodies. Of course, he's maintained a long, rich solo career since leaving Genesis, but his legacy with the band is an undeniable part of who he is, so his shows tend to feature a combination of material from his solo albums and Genesis classics as well. And since his music is technically demanding, every tour finds Hackett backed by a top-tier crew of musicians, helping to bring his complex — but entirely accessible — compositions to life on the stage. It's a show that brings heady visions of prog rock's luminous past, but still feels completely relevant to the current moment.

Steve Hackett in Concert

As the lead guitarist for Genesis from 1971's Nursery Cryme through 1976's Wind & Wuthering, Steve Hackett was crucial to creating the template not only for the legendary British band but for progressive rock as a whole. In the spirit of the genre's adventurous approach, Hackett developed a sound unlike anything that had been heard in rock before, something simultaneously liquid and visceral. He released his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975, and it became a prog classic in its own right. After leaving Genesis, he leaped with both feet into his solo career, and he hasn't stopped creating commanding music ever since. Along the way, Hackett has also taken time to collaborate with stellar peers such as Yes bassist Chris Squire (with whom he formed the duo Squackett), Yes guitarist Steve Howe (in supergroup GTR) and Alan Parsons. But he's always tended his own musical vision first and foremost, maintaining his status as a prog rock guitar hero in perpetuity.

What a remarkable show. If you enjoy prog rock, this had it all. Band, sound and lighting all amazing. Expeiencing these classics live as well as the new material reminded me of how important Steve Hackett is to this form. If you get a chance, do.

Steve Hackett - Foxtrot at 50 in Dallas

by Alexander Green on 4/12/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Steve Hackett is one of the best guitar players I have ever seen. Proficient, incredibly competent, fast or slow, and all over the neck. I hope I can play the guitar as good as he does when I am 74. Steve's touring band were all journeymen with a couple of outstanding multi-instrumentalists. They came in well-rehearsed and plenty tight. First, Steve's solo work and new release tracks were superb. Then, it was great to hear Foxtrot and see his guitar parts. The drums had the muscular Phil Collins sound and Nad Sylvan was stellar as Peter Gabriel, although the vocals were a tad muddy and should have been higher in the mix (my only complaint). It was an excellent evening of great music in every way.

The historic Majestic Theater was the perfect place for the Steve Hackett performance. The theaters acoustics are very good. Steve Hackett is in his own class of virtuoso guitarist. Overall excellent experience!

    Steve Hackett never grows old

by DallasBrit on 4/9/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Steve Hackett and his band of brilliant musicians rolled back the years, as they excellently paid tribute to the entire classic Foxtrot album that was first produced back in 1972 by the original Genesis. The sound, the energy and the vibe of the original were all there to be experienced by a vocal and excited crowd who had grown up with this music. Me included. To say the music, the lights and the venue were all magnificent would be an understatement. It was so much more than this, and left one with a bewildering feeling of nostalgic familiarity, driven by an exciting energy and vibe as powerful today as it was some 52 years ago. Steve is a god amongst guitarists, inspiring not just us original "progs"but also those young aspiring musical explorers of today. Steve was a Genesis original, and has no doubt played these songs thousands of times, yet on this night, the tone, the emotion and the drive were as fresh as the day these sounds first struck the ears in 1972. Though Gabriel, Banks, Rutherford and Collins were not on stage, it made no difference to the Genesis experience. The music is timeless, and the artists that played before us recreated a masterpiece for all, right there, on the stage of the Majestic Theater in the heart of Dallas! So, I thank and applaud each of them: Roger King, the brilliant master of the keys, playing with class and precision. Rob Townsend, bringing us a wide range of amazing melodic emotion via sax and flute, as well as additional keyboard and percussionist talents. Jonas Reingold, providing a firm foundation on his Rickenbacker, shining light on his talents with a powerful, fun, captivating solo. Craig Blundell, magnificent performance, culminating in a thunderous solo of pure drumming talent, (bought one of his signed drum heads before the show). Nad Sylvan, the voice this band needs. Comparisons abound between the various vocalists that have come and gone since the days of Peter Gabriel and his bat wing headdress. Nad is just Nad, he is not trying to imitate, but does successfully, for me at least, capture the original intent of the Gabriel performance. Finally, there is Steve Hackett himself. Ageless and as passionate about his music as he has always been. This night he projected the very essence of a man at one with his guitar. The textures of the sounds he so eloquently produced were second to none. I thank him for keeping this music alive and out there for all to enjoy. A stunning night.

    Perfect Evening with Steve Hackett

by Dave K on 4/9/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

What a perfect evening of amazing music and memories with Steve Hackett at The Majestic in Dallas. I have been a fan of Steve Hackett dating to his days as the lead guitar player of Genesis. Steve and his remarkable band have managed to keep this music alive, and deliver a perfect rendition of it. Hackett shows also feature songs from Steve's solo career, which are equally genius to the Genesis music. The Majestic is a great venue, with comfortable seats (that swivel like rocking chairs!), incredible sight lines from any seat and convenient well-lit nearby parking. I hope Steve Hackett brings his tour to Dallas again soon. "Foxtrot at 50"was a great show, and now we're ready for "Selling England by The Pound at 50"and/or "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway at 50!"

Steve Hackett is easily one of the 10 best guitarists of all time. And he proved it again... Excellent song choices and a great performance by the band.

    Hackett Highlights

by Gadman on 4/9/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

WOW. First off-venue is spectacular! Beautiful theater, clean and comfortable. I was honored to sit in the front row-at the stage…..an immersive experience! I am a big Genesis fan, so getting to hear some of my favorite music performed by Steve himself, was pretty danged exciting. The band Steve has assembled to help him deliver his craft is tight, and excellent musicians in their own right! Sure hope they keep touring and come through again! If you were there and saw a tall white guy wearing a Genesis Foxtrot T-shirt…..yeah, that was me. LOL.

    Steve Hackett still has it!!

by Dave H. on 4/9/24Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Between the great Genesis songs, his amazing guitar playing and his singer that sounds very much like Peter Gabriel, it was a truly fantastic show! We're so glad we went and highly recommend to anyone who loves Genesis to go and see it!
