Status Quo in Concert

Ever since their first single “Pictures of Matchstick Men” became a top 10 hit in 1968, Status Quo have enjoyed continued success with their unique boogie-rock sound. Over their career the band has sold over 118 million records worldwide. They also have the honor of making more appearances on Top of the Pops than any other artist.

Status Quo was first formed in 1962 by guitarist Francis Rossi and bassist Alan Lancaster, when they were called The Spectres. After being known as Traffic Jam for a short while, the name Status Quo was finally settled on in 1967. By this time Rick Parfitt had joined the group and chart success was imminent. With some hit singles under their belt, Status Quo adopted the sound for which they became renowned for with the release of the album, Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon, in 1970. This decade would see the band reach new heights with several popular singles, including “Down Down,” “Caroline,” “Roll Over Lay Down,” “Rain” and “Rockin' All Over the World.” Commercial success would continue for the band over the following decades.

The members of Status Quo have become well known for their tireless charity work and they were the opening act at the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in 1985. During 1991, the band raised money with their Rock Till You Drop event. Playing four different venues in 11 hours, the feat saw them enter the Guinness Book of Records. In addition to their solo tours, Status Quo have co-headlined with the likes of Rod Steward and The Beach Boys.

Long-standing group members Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt have both received the OBE for their services to music and charity. In 1991, Status Quo was honored with both the BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to the British Music Industry and the World Music Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Rock Industry.
