Cinderella Ballet in Portland: Delightful Afternoon

by Anita on 2/28/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

Oregon Ballet, Prokofiev’s Ballet Cinderella in Portland in the Keller Cinderella, the Prince and the Fairy Godmother (all local company members, not guests) were, of course, marvelous. My personal favorite was the Jester (Brian Simcoe from Grants Pass) noteworthy not just for his acrobatic dancing, but also stage presence and humor. The two men who played the comically evil Step Sisters were not funny at all to me until they danced with the Jester and then they were all hilarious. In fairness to the Step Sisters, they had all the little princesses in the audience rolling in the aisles. The Oregon Ballet Orchestra is wonderful, with many Oregon Symphony musicians. This is my first time seeing the Oregon Ballet Theatre in Portland. It was a delightful afternoon. I hope to attend another soon!

    As usual, OBT delivers

by JR on 2/26/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

I loved the show. This was my second time seeing the production and I was lucky to see it closer to the stage and with a couple of friends who had never seen an OBT production. Absolutely gorgeous costumes, sets and lighting design, the dancers were amazing, as usual. All-in-all, another thrilling performance. Look forward to the upcoming season!

    Cinderella - worth the wait

by Carol on 2/26/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

My daughter and I attended OBT's Cinderella and absolutely loved it! The prices of the tickets were very affordable and our seats were in an area where we had a good view of the stage. All of the performers were top notch and the show was very entertaining.

    Pretty

by Genevieve on 2/26/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

Beautiful dancing and phenomenal sets. I only don't give it 5 stars because there is a scene with fairies that represent seasons, and is very confusing as in moment it seems like they're saying that time is passing, spring to summer to fall to winter, nor do the fairies serve much of a puporse.

    An Enchanted Daddy Daughter Evening

by Jeff on 2/25/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

Marvelously intricate scenery. Well choreographed and staged. The dancing was excellent. A beautifully well told story at a nexus of the arts. However I thought it could have been trimmed a bit. Two 20 min intermissions and three full acts was a lot considering the number of children who inevitably made their parents pay the next morning. Overall a wonderful experience for my daughter’s first ballet.

    Delightful!!

by JHC Wilsonville on 2/25/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

I only wish I could have attended the ballet a second time during its run. The sets were creative and captivating. The choreography and execution were spot on. Cinderella herself was magnificent as she floated effortlessly through her space. The prince and jester were strikingly elegant and athletic. And the step-sisters were wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! And, not to be left out, the orchestra was absolutely amazing. Thank you, thank you, OBT!

    Like floating in the air

by Nicola on 2/24/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

Although the performance spanned two and one half hours the time flew by. Without a single spoken word, the story of Cinderella unfolded easily. I enjoyed the expanded version of its telling exposing details that brought adult interest to a traditional children's story. The imaginative sets sparked my imagination and provided an important clue to the story's purpose and meaning. The complex choreography paired with the musical settings kept my logical mind intrigued. At the same time, my emotive brain soared with the movement of the ballet. Thank you for all the time and effort, skill and insight you packed into this performance.

This was our first live ballet experience. Our 10 year old granddaughter is learning the flute and was amazed with the live orchestra, as well. We were all entertained and enchanted.

    A dose of cheer

    by J. V. on 12/26/18Keller Auditorium - Portland

The concessions could use general signage to explain the purposes of the many different places to attain refreshment. The show on the other hand needed zero signage to explain. The actors held the stage with extraordinary grace. The scenery gave me the impression of being on an acid trip. The immersion the show gave audience members is an unparalleled experience that can't be missed. Fill you cup with cheer and put on your leg warmers and get tickets now
