    Best ever ballet at Keller

    by G. L. on 2/19/20Keller Auditorium - Portland

My daughter gave my wife and I tickets to Sleeping Beauty for Christmas. The seats were great! The orchestra was great! And the dancers, the sets, and the scenes were an absolutely perfect fairy tale come to life. And Tchaikovsky...need I say more? Believe this ballet was a better performance than the always great Nutcracker.

A gorgeous, lush, beautifully executed performance

    by D. B. on 2/19/20Keller Auditorium - Portland

The beautiful costumes and scenery supported the strong dancing. I liked Sowell's decision to collapse the ballet into 2 acts. Eva Burton did a wonderful job of portraying Aurora--sweet, innocent, youthful. Her upper body was so expressive without undermining the classical qualities of the choreography. Her interactions with the 4 suitors were so appropriate to her character. Impressive dancing from the leads and the company artists.

    Fabulous!

by Mimi on 2/19/20Keller Auditorium - Portland

Next to the Nutracker, this is the best ballet I have ever seen. The costumes were beautiful and the dancing was superb! The Principle dancers were wonderful. I have never seen a ballerina as strong as the one who played Aurora. The moves she did were absolutely amazing! Our seats were the best and I loved every minute of the performance! Portland can be proud of such an amazing cast of ballet performers!

    If you see but one...

    by Z on 2/18/20Keller Auditorium - Portland

This is the ballet to see, no matter if you are a regular or merely seeing one this year. All aspects from performance, to set design, musical score, costumes and percise transitions by the set crew, were top notch.

    Another Amazing Nutcracker

    by PDXgirl51 on 12/26/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

The 2019 Nutcracker was exceptional! The dancers were amazing and very professional. The Holidays are not the same without a trip to see the Nutcracker. Thank you, Oregon Ballet Theatre for another great performance. Looking forward to the 2020 Nutcracker.

    Excellent

by Ann on 12/26/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

We, my husband and i, attended two.performances of the Nutcracker this year. The performances were superb. My husband grew up in New York City where it was a family tradition to see a performance by the New York City Ballet at Christmas. He considers the Oregon Ballet Theatre performances as excellent. We especially enjoy the talk given an hour or so before the performance. It is informative and adds to the enjoyment of the production. Great experience.

    Bravo!

by BGS on 12/25/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

Many accolades and thanks for another magical Nutcracker experience. This is an annual event that we look forward to and has become our Christmas gift to ourselves. The OBT orchestra is an essential part of the event that makes it very special. Bravo to all the dancers who work so hard to make this such a special event, especially for all the kids!

    The Best Nutcracker

by Fierywolf on 12/24/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

I was rather apprehensive after hearing mixed reviews from various friends and their kids about this years performance of the Nutcracker. I had purchased the tickets for myself, my sister and her three kids, two of which are special needs and often have problems with sensory overload and I knew it would be a rather long haul of the show as well, but we were still willing to give it a go and I was NOT disappointed! As always the Keller is such a brilliant place to hold a show like this, the auditorium's stage is brilliantly set for this ballet. It was also a huge surprise to my nephews and niece(all who are in the school orchestra) that we were hearing the music performed live(please consider seeing a performance with the orchestra). Highlights for me was certainly seeing more mature dances in the roles of the adults, or for the bigger numbers like Snow Drop and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Sadly I can't remember the name of the ballerina who was performing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy on the afternoon we were there, but she got a standing ovation from the kids after her perfect performance of the Pas De Deux dance with her caviler. I have now taken all my nieces and nephews to see this ballet performed over the last couple of years, but I have to say that this year was the most brilliant performance that I've seen and heard performed by the orchestra.

    Outstanding

by BJ on 12/24/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

It’s a tradition in our family that my 2 daughters and granddaughter and I attend the Nutcracker every year. We never tire of it and this year it seemed better than ever! The precision of the group was flawless and the skill level just keeps getting better, if that’s possible. Kelsie was a perfect sugar Plum Fairy.

Not what we've come to expect

by Nell on 12/23/19Keller Auditorium - Portland

The extended dance performance (all of them) of the second half without a true plot line were difficult to endure for younger audience members, even for some of the adults in our group.
