About

One Woman Sex and the City On Tour

One Woman Sex and the City is exactly what you think it is. Actress and co-creator Kerry Ipema and director and co-writer TJ Dawe take on the daunting (but surely delightful) task of distilling the most memorable moments from all 94 episodes of the HBO hit series Sex and the City into one compact, 90-minute show.

Ipema manages to make you laugh, cry, and reminisce with the same gusto and glam that all four of the show's iconic characters — Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda — would display week in and week out during Sex and the City's six-season run from 1998 to 2004.

This "Parody of Love, Friendship and Shoes" proves the series' timeless appeal. Ipema touches on all of SATC's emotions, dramas, and punny one-liners while seamlessly playing all of the show's cast members, even boyfriends Mr. Big, Steve, and Aidan. In fact, she runs through a total of 24 different characters throughout the performance.

You'll be taken all the way back to Carrie's "naked dress" from her first date with Mr. Big, to the Post-It breakup note from Jack Berger, to even Donald Trump's brief cameo. Ipema also breaks the "fourth wall," throwing in witty asides and playful commentary to create an insightful conversation with the audience. Be ready to answer such incisive questions as "Which character are you?" or "What was your craziest date?"

The set is simple, as is Ipema's all-black outfit, but the show is anything but as it moves along at breakneck speed. Still, it all somehow makes perfect sense, even to the rare person who has never seen a Sex and the City episode.

One Woman Sex and the City debuted at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival in 2016 and is still going strong. The show has since had a successful national tour, made appearances at several international festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and finally landed in the place that started it all — New York City — in 2018 with a long run at the Jerry Orbach Theater.

    Expected More

by A. on 11/6/19The Maryland Theatre - Hagerstown

The show itself was great, but the brunch left something to be desired. For $40 you got one drink and small bites. Everything was pretty much a dessert, except for mini quiche. There was no meat, no silverware, and no bread. The entire "buffet" consisted of donuts, macarons, french toast kabobs with berries, mini quiche, and yogurt parfait. That's it. Almost every single thing was sugar laden and non-filling. The vendors were mostly MLM's, and though it was a fun atmosphere, we had to go to the Mexican restaurant for real food. For $40, I would have expected to leave full. Not to mention additional drinks were made with Verdi at $8 a pop.

This was an early Christmas gift with my sister-in-law/friend. A wonderfully fun brunch followed by a hilarious show. We laughed start to finish and still laughing. Would see again in a heartbeat! Kudos to Maryland Theater for putting on this event!

Would recommend this show to anyone who has seen even one episode of Sex and the City, or just wants to see an amazing performance by one actor. She skewers all the right parts, while sending up the TV show with lots of love. 5 stars for this show!! The venue is a-ok.
