Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2002-2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired. Overall, the Wild has qualified for the Playoffs 13 times in its history.

    Suggestions

by Chuck on 5/5/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

More mens room areas. Lines are ridiculous. In between play give a few breaks on the noise for conversation. Too loud and constant to have any conversation. Have to leave the game and go in the concourse to talk. Game and everything else is great.

V.I.P My tickets were on the glass.

by J. W. on 5/4/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

If you can afford it, I would highly recommend you buy on the glass tickets at least once. I was sitting 12 feet away from the goal crease. You are right there when someone gets checked into the boards or is chasing the puck in the corner. Talk about photos? You will be able to post or show coworkers and friends your close up action shots. After I bought my tickets, I received and E mail that gave me more information about the ticket. Much to my surprise, there is an On The Glass Club Room. It opens 90 minutes before puck drop and is only for on the glass ticket holders. You enter Gate 5 then take an elevator down to sub level. You are given a wrist band after you verify your seating. The On The Glass Club has free food and beverages. After Puck drop the Club opens up after each period and will announce when it's time to return to tour seat. Since my first experience at the Wild vs Flames game I have bought on the glass for 2 of the play off games. " LET'S GO WILD .'

    Excellent customer service

by ashnicrick on 5/4/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

The customer service at the Xcel Energy Center during the MN Wild game was on another level. Every worker we came into contact with (from the Hockey Lodge, to security, to concessions) was so polite and helpful, had constant smiles on their faces and acted like serving us was a joy. It was so awesome! I have never been to an event where the service was this impeccable across the board.

    Good game

by Fan311 on 5/2/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

We really enjoyed the game & loved our seats!! However, we did have a hard time initially finding our seats and then when we did there were others sitting in them... it was disappointing in that these people seemed upset/irritated and continued to talk with the other people near us that they were upset about moving (our seats were upper deck). Beyond that, it was a great game.

    Great GAME

by Redracer27 on 4/25/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Being a house Divided - My Stepson a Wilds Fan & I being a Krakken - we had a blast. Howard there at the Xcel Center was an incredible employee helping people make memories taking pictures as he directed people to their seats and helped stop people from pounding on the glass. I was surprised on the comeback the Wilds had but I had a Kraka-lakken of a good time and of course my Stepson was pleased his team won. Security gates had an easy flow and touchless got you to your seats fast. Excellent processes which makes for a more enjoyable game!

    Hard to see

by Schell on 4/25/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

You often hear that there are no bad seats at xcel. I disagree. SR 118 was great if the people in front of you are sitting. But when they stand you can't see a thing! You can only see the bottom 1/3 of the jumbo tron too. I would discourage purchasing tickets in this section.

    Wild Fan

by RJ1311 on 4/24/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

We love attending college and professional sporting events, but the Wild Games are by FAR superior to the rest. Organized/quick Entry to well marked sections. I’ve never experienced an angry fan OR crabby staff yet. Fun atmosphere for children and adults. Have always felt safe and security can be seen everywhere. Will continue attending as often as we can!

    Be Careful

by SRO on 4/1/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Make sure to look closely at the row on the ticket you are purchasing. I ended up getting standing room only and not realizing it. You will pay a lot of money to miss all the good parts of the game because when people in front of you stand it blocks the view completely. Do not pay for SRO tickets.

    Overall Good Time

by 1st Time Wild Attendee on 4/1/22Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Overall a great experience, and the Wild won. The most frustrating thing was a row of strobe lights on the catwalks that flashed very frequently but inconsistently throughout the game. When people around us asked the ushers about it, and when I texted with customer service, we were told it was 'professional photography'. I don't know if it happens at every game, but it negatively impacted our experience.
