About

MARTY FRIEDMAN IN CONCERT:

From his days playing guitar with metal mainstay Megadeth to his current reign as a solo six-string god, guitar legend Marty Friedman has been a virtuosic force to be reckoned with. At his live shows Friedman showcases his chops with jaw-dropping dexterity, improvising insanely intricate passages with headbanging energy while his backing band thrashes with reckless abandon. His shredding solos use scales from both Western and Eastern styles, making for an exotic musical journey to the edges of the harmonic spectrum. Whether he’s blowing minds with rapid-fire arpeggios or showing off his mastery of the rare "sweep picking" technique on his “Tornado of Souls” solo, Friedman always leaves ticket buyers thoroughly impressed and rocked to the core.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Maryland-born Marty Friedman took up the guitar at age 14 after attending a KISS concert. He started playing with a few friends and formed the band Cacophony, releasing two albums with the group as well as a solo album titled Dragon’s Kiss before joining legendary thrash metal outfit Megadeath in 1990. He made his recording debut with the band that same year on the album Rust in Peace, a platinum-selling scorcher that earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. Friedman recorded and toured with the band for the better part of the next decade, selling more than 10 million albums with Megadeath before leaving the group in 1999 to pursue solo projects. In 2003 he released the album Music for Speaking and relocated to Tokyo, where his cult following and ability to speak Japanese earned him his own TV show Rock Fujiyama. Since then he has released several more solo albums and appeared on Japanese TV regularly while also continuing to rock stateside fans on tour in support of hard-hitting records like 2014’s Inferno.

    Good Concert & good Venue.

by Leo on 3/26/19Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Good vibe and sound in general. I liked the fact that the bands were increasing in virtuosity until reaching the pinnacle: Marty Friedman. Maybe some few seats around the venue would be good to rest a little bit?

    Marty Friedman

by Dorame on 1/28/19The Parish at House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

This was my first time seeing Marty play live. I had heard that his shows were great but man it far exceeded my expectations! Very entertaining and energetic, and of course all members of the band are great at what they do. I would recommend watching Marty live for anybody that enjoys music, and the tickets are insanely cheap!

    Great show...if up front.

by AZU on 1/27/19The Parish at House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Hell of a show by both Marty Friedman and Immortal Guardian. I was a few people from the front and really enjoyed the show; however, I'm almost positive the people in the middle of the hall and the back couldn't see anything. The stage needs to be much much higher so everyone can see.

    Could have been MUCH better

by Steve on 1/27/19The Parish at House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Pros: Clean room, nice bathroom access and seeing Marty live (arguably the best guitarist of our time) Cons: Way too loud for that small room; Stage too low (I couldn't see them actually playing their guitars); Gimmicky drummer (the man can play no doubt, but it felt like a Kiss concert); and the biggest flaw in my opinion - Marty's set list was atrocious. It was 80% speed/thrash metal and nobody wants to see Marty play that. His wheelhouse is melodic, ballad-like, memorable riffs and exotic scales/solos - he should have built the show around that.

One of the BEST Instrumental Shows I've Seen.

by SlamuelDjackson on 8/30/17The Parish at House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

First off. the venue's sound was so resonant and full with amazing clarity. It made for an unforgettable experience when the hundreds of thousands of notes were being thrown at you. The Fine Constant is a band I've seen several times and this was without a doubt the best experience I've had with them. Everyone nailed their parts and were tight with each other. Scale the Summit blew me away with their new material as well as some of the fan-favorites. The new songs they played sounded absolutely massive and it was a real pleasure getting to see Chris Letchford do a bit of improv and melt our faces. Killian and their fill-in drummer helped bring the Scale the Summit-experience a bit of new life and it was an overall joy to watch they perform. Marty Friedman was exactly what you would expect from a guitar virtuoso and he and his band did not disappoint.

    Gone bad

by Anonymous on 8/6/17Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Show was crazy loud. Bass and drums were cranked, isn't this supposed to be about the chops of the lead gtr I thought? The riffs in his songwriting have gone downhill. I didn't hear anything off Dragons Kiss. Heard 1 Megadeth lick. Left after 30 min.

Great show, lots of talent and fun

by zrns on 2/21/16Masquerade - Atlanta

Rare chance to see Marty Friedman in the US, so cannot miss this one. Very talented guitar player that draws inspiration from unique places (Japanese music, the most obvious) and takes metal music to new levels. Even if you are not very familiar with his career or discography, Marty's fun personality and his awesome band members make it such a great night of music.
