About

King Princess in Concert

Mikaela Straus was born to rock - and shock. The Brooklyn-born vocalist, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer was surrounded by music as a kid. While her mom worked in fashion, her dad took on the role of recording engineer and owner of Brooklyn's Mission Sound, a studio located in their house. There, Straus learned guitar, bass, piano, drums, and production techniques. She also listened to a lot of hard rock, from Led Zeppelin to Jack White.

By the time she was 11 years old, she had the attention of Virgin Records - but she wasn't quite ready for a record deal yet. Fast forward a few years, and Straus was on her way to the west coast, where she began studying at USC's Thornton School of Music. Only a year into her program, she was ready to pursue music full-time, so she decided to drop out. It turned out to be a smart move.

At just 19 years old, her world changed. As King Princess, she would not only play with the concept of gender but the idea of pop music itself - and it quickly caught on. She released her debut single, "1950," in February 2018 on Mark Ronson's Zelig Recordings label. With her breathy, soulful vocals slinking over simmering electro-pop, it made its way onto the U.S. Alternative charts, peaking at No. 17, and was soon hailed as one of the year's great queer love anthems.

Not long after, she followed up with the sultry "Talia" and then her debut EP, 'Make My Bed.' In support of that release, she played select U.S. dates in the summer, and by November 2018, she made even bigger waves in the world of pop with the release of breezy and bold single "P*ssy is God."

Even without a full-length album to her name, King Princess was quick to hit the touring circuit, already headlining shows throughout Australia and New Zealand in 2018 before kicking off her first major North American tour in 2019.

    More of a rock vibe

by Lauren on 1/1/23The Fillmore Detroit - Detroit

King Princess usually has more of a pop sound - which is awesome. In person, the vibe is much more rock, which was a great surprise. 10/10 would see her again.

    Amazing

by JTAmes on 11/6/22House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

This show was so awesome. King Princess was on for such a long time and I loved every second. I would have been fine paying 5x the amount that I paid to be there. Absolutely unforgettable.

    Great Venue, Great Show

by DJ on 11/6/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

The venue was nice, great ambience. We had balcony seats, and we felt secure knowing you could only get to the second floor by showing you had a balcony ticket. There was a bar upstairs that was easily accessible. The show was great, our seats were right above the stage, and KP is a hell of a performer, we’ve seen her a few times now and love her shows more than anything.

    Low class

by Don P on 11/6/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

I get it. Everyone is using explicit lyrics in their songs and I’m ok with that to a point. King Princess cursed at the crowd and some loved it but I think it detracted from her performance. To use the “B” word once or twice is ok because of her target audience. When used over and over, it just gets old. She has a great voice and superb lyrics. She said Houston was her next to last performance of the tour and I think she was tired…who wouldn’t be? I won’t pay to see King Princess live again so I will stay at home and chill to her music.

    100/10

by Mac on 10/23/22Showbox SoDo - Seattle

King princess was better live than a lot of artists I’ve seen, they have a legendary performance. Very down to earth as well, got to do the meet and greet and they genuinely enjoy meeting the fans. Will be doing it again if offered next time around.

    Beyond Amazing

    by A on 10/18/22

This was my first time seeing Kp live, and I was beyond impressed. I knew it was going to be an awesome show, but it was even better than I expected, which says a lot. I was lucky enough to get vip tickets in time so I was able to meet her before the show. I gave her a letter that I wrote her, she was beyond sweet and even FaceTimed my bestfriend with me so she could meet her. St. Panther was a great way to start the night before Kp came on. The show in itself was unforgettable, not only was every song well performed, the energy was unmatched. Mikaela truly interacted with her fans which was so refreshing to see. The person next to me asked her to take her BeReal and she did that. Every song that she sung was so well done, I was amazed. She truly is talented. Towards the end of the show she came to the barricade and walked down. She ended up seeing me in the crowd and came over to me to give me a hug. Hearing Let Us Die was the perfect song to end on. I honestly have absolutely nothing bad to say about any part of the show. It was truly a night that I will never ever forget, and I cannot wait for the next time, whenever that will be. I guarantee you will not regret going to one of these shows.
