About

Influenced by the likes of D’Angelo and Stevie Wonder along with Burial and Mount Kimbie, James Blake is known for injecting some soul into the genre of dubstep. The London-based producer first gave the world a taste of his quirky, R&B-sampling strain of dubstep in 2009 when his Air & Lack Thereof 12” appeared on the Hemlock label. Blake received quite the endorsement when the heralded Soul Jazz label picked the track up for their Steppas' Delight 2 compilation that same year. In 2010 the R&S label released his CMYK EP while Hessle Audio issued his 12” single The Bells Sketch. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi

Not as good as it could have been

by BR on 10/20/23The Masonic - San Francisco

I really like his music. But the acoustics were horrible and the sound absolutely too loud. Could not hear him, could not hear the music, screeching and dispersing sound. When I listened to his album on Spotify at home, it was what I expected it to be. Why does it have to be so utterly and unreasonably loud and so unsuited for the acoustics of the Masonic? I could see many other people in the audience did not enjoy it as they could have . I was at his concert few years ago in Oakland in Fox Theater. That was one of reasons I went to this concert, because that concert in Oakland was so good, one of the best I was at. His music certainly deserves better. I don;t know who was in charge of the sound, but whoever it was, it failed miserably.

    Great but loud

by Mike f on 10/19/23The Masonic - San Francisco

The event was great James blake put on a great show , however the audio was very loud and it was hard to hear James sing and why I gave it four stars. The worst part was James Blake's Merchandise was sub par at best. He really needs to step up his merch game!

    Incredible live experience

by Dylan on 10/17/23Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

James Blake and his band put on the best live show I have ever seen! Each song transitioned beautifully into the next and they tweaked the songs love to match the mood of the crowd! He was on stage for 2 hours and the energy never dwindled even for a second! Amazing light synchronization too!

    His Best Show Yet

by Alexandriughhh on 10/17/23Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

I am a massive James Blake fan. This was actually my fourth time seeing him and I say this with all sincerity, this was his best show yet. I had the time of my life. I love the Aragon Ballroom. It's my favorite venue for live music. Plenty of security, multiple beverage stations, the bathrooms are huge and clean, and easy in and easy out. All of these venues have started to charge $4 and $5s for water which is insane but other than that I don't have any complaints. I loved the show and I'll continue to see him until he stops playing.
