About

For nearly a decade, HAMILTON at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, with its innovative mix of history and hip-hop, has remained “The Room Where It Happens” on Broadway. The groundbreaking Lin-Manuel Miranda production, based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has gripped theatergoers since its 2015 debut. Immediately hailed as another milestone achievement by Miranda, who previously won a Tony Award and a Grammy for his first musical, In The Heights, HAMILTON became the most-nominated production in Tony Awards’ history and won 11 of its 16 contests, the second-largest haul in the ceremony's history. Among many other accolades, the musical earned a Pulitzer Prize in Drama, two Emmys for the stage film released on Disney+ in 2020, and a Grammy for the 2015 original Broadway cast recording, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the first Broadway cast album to reach Diamond certification by the RIAA in 2023. While it certainly made Lin-Manuel Miranda as much of a household name as the man behind his titular role, HAMILTON also launched the careers of his castmates, including Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

    Not up to the hype

by Joy B on 12/2/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The show itself is wonderful, but as with so many other shows it could never possibly live up to the hype. It is unfortunate that ticket prices are so expensive as that contributes to the disappointment. I also found it disappointing that the cast did not seem to be giving it a 100% which I'm sure is a problem when shows are running for a long time... Unless you are a millionaire with money to burn, I would not pay the ridiculous ticket prices. It is totally not worth it. However, if you can get tickets in the lottery or someone gives them to you or you pay less than $200 for them it's totally worth it.

    Spectacular Show

by B. C. on 11/30/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Show was wonderful but the manner of getting tickets through Ticketmaster was unsatisfactory. The actual seats were not identified until the day or day before performance. The seats were in an added row which worked out ok but not what I expected.

    Beyond Expectation

by LuLu on 11/27/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

This show not only lived up to its lofty reputation but exceeded it. The non-traditional approach left me without words to fully describe the experience to friends. History has never been so wonderfully portrayed. A MUST See!!

    Moving performance

by Dwayne on 11/26/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I actually have a waited a couple of years before attending this show because of the creator’s negative views of Trump and Pence. My political views were not challenged in any way, and I was able to enjoy a moving musical performance based on Hamilton’s historical service and personal tragedies.

No Legroom, poor sight lines, many stairs...

by Lin Fan on 11/26/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The restrooms were in the basement and the seats were in the rafters. We were seated in a handicapped row with zero legroom and zero assistance. Very disappointed for the price we paid. The seats were extremely tight and uncomfortable and distracted all from enjoying the show.

    Good show

by Kelly on 11/26/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Hamilton was a decent show. The actors were very talented and the show gave a lot of historical information, but this show has been hyped up since it started and we didn’t really feel it lived up to all the hype. Received the tickets as a gift; it’s not a show I would have chosen to go to on my own.

    Hamilton

by Bella on 11/25/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The show is a rap. At times (40%) very difficult to understand what is being said. I do give it credit for creativity and execution. Recommend if you want to see this is buy the soundtrack and listen to it many times prior to attending.

    Hamilton

by J. B. on 11/25/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I've been looking forward to seeing this for months and it did live up to all the hype. I paid three times more than I have for any other show but it was worth this once in a lifetime event.

    Just Amazing

by Cookie on 11/24/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

This was an amazing experience! The music, the choreography... the synchronization! The energy! It’s the type of experience you need to have more than once so you can really appreciate the nuances. I think Lin Manual Miranda is a genius!

    Amazing

by Gary on 11/24/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Entering was easy and simple. The actors were amazing. Everything was amazing. Obviously it's not the same as watching the original cast, but if you set that aside they were were good nonetheless.
