Lackluster Performance
Brighton Music Hall - Boston
This was a prime example of a legendary band giving such a mediocre performance. The lineup consisted of sole original member and co-founder Jean-Herve Peron on bass, vocals, and guitar, two saxophone players, drummer, and guitarist that started the opening number playing what ended up being underused sheet metal percussion. To Faust's credit, they started off strong with the title track to their most recent album, "Fresh Air," to which they stuck to in it's entirety, with the sole exception from the classic period being, "The Sad Skinhead" from Faust IV. The rest of their disappointingly short set consisted of sticking to playing the remainder of the last album, which was mostly made up of short quieter songs. When the band - who is otherwise known for their loud proto-industrial sound - has to tell the audience to be quiet, then you know you've been let down, and maybe it's time for the group to either hang it up with touring, or just stick to making albums. The venue is otherwise worth seeing live music, and openers Creative Healing and Alec K and the Eyesores are both worth checking out.

Faust
Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore
Faust at Lyric Opera was unforgettable. With a cast of more than 100, including the orchestra, it was a bigger than life rendition of an old guy who strikes a bargain with the devil for a few years of fun. Faust sang like the devil, and Marguerite sang like an angel. And there were English "subtitles": big words in English splashed across a backdrop. My favorite sutitle was the single word, "Flowers" in case you somehow didn't get the hint from numerous baskets full of flowers positioned across the stage. It was good production value, although nothing less was expected. Even though I don't go to the opera much, the subsidized tickets are not cheap--just worth every penny.

Faust is one of my favourite operas. Show and acoustics were very good. The adaptation in a modern key made it more up to date.

Best Opera yet
Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore
We have attended the Baltimore opera for years, and this was the best performance and staging yet. The voices were wonderful, and the singers could act as well. Bravo
