Detroit Lions Team History
The Detroit Lions haven't always been the Lions. In 1934, George A. Richards, a radio executive, purchased the Spartans, a team from Portsmouth, Ohio. After the $8,000 purchase (a huge sum at that time), he moved the team to Detroit. In only their second year as the Detroit Lions, the team won the 1935 NFL championship, beating the New York Giants 26-7 at the University of Detroit Stadium.
During the 1950s, the Lions enjoyed some of the most successful seasons in their history, winning three league championships against the Cleveland Browns in 1952, 1953 and 1957. Divisional titles came again in 1991 and 1993.

Detroit Lions at Ford Field
The 65,000-capacity Ford Field consists of 1.85 million square feet and has four levels of suites, a level of club seating, and a ground level designated for concessions and retail. It also has some of the best sight lines of any football stadium in the United States, made available by a design that omits the traditional club and suite levels, thereby lowering the upper level.
In 2017, the Detroit Lions announced a $100 million investment into stadium renovations. Updates to The New Ford Field included a complete overhaul of Ford Field's audio/visual guest experience with new video boards to ensure easy viewing for fans in all corners of the stadium, an upgraded sound system, as well as renovated stadium suites and premium club areas.
The Detroit Lions’ schedule release video was posted on May 11, 2023, and features hilarious A.I.-generated commentary from Lions general manager Brad Holmes, head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff. You can watch the clip here.
The Detroit Lions’ 2023 regular season — their 90th in Detroit — kicks off in September at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, when the Lions face off against defending Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions play their final game of the regular season at home against their NFC North rivals the Minnesota Vikings. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions’ biggest rivals are the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings.
Great to be with other lions fans to watch and cheer the lions in the NFC championship game.
The Lions gave us a great season, thank you for having this watch party. Even though we lost, it was still a wonderful venue to watch the game.
I enjoyed the whole season and look forward to great things next season. They had me so happy all season and just excited about being a season ticket holder. I can’t wait to see the new Lions roar
I love the Detroit Lions and this season has been the most exciting in years. To have so many people come out just to watch them on tv shows I'm not the only who has love for them. Hopefully next season's tickets will be fairly priced for us long year fans and not cater to the popularity
The experience was just like watching them in person … win or lose it was a great experience
We bought tickets to go see the watch party for NFL Lions and it was such a great experience to be there.
Best location and atmosphere to watch the lions in the NFC Championship. Only better if we hosted the actual championship.
Absolutely loved the experience. Seats were great and the crowd was electrifying. And a big Win!! Go Lions. One Pride💙🩶
This was the best sport experience I’ve been to in my life. Best stadium, best team, best fans! Michigander who moved to Florida 25 years ago. I had to fly up to see this game. Just happened to get a Red Wing game the same night. Had never been to either stadium/arena. Both were built after I moved. Amazing experience, amazing facilities, and thank you to the Illitch family for rebuilding downtown Detroit!
Other than the cost it was amazing experience the crowd was awesome
Place was rocking! Easy to get tickets to my phone.
I received all information prior to event, like gate closest to my seats and best time to get there, how to access my tickets, etc,
Historic event. Epic environment. Great win. Seamless delivery of tickets.
This was the BEST Lion's game ever!!!! It was also the LOUDEST!! I know the news keeps using the word "electric"to describe it and honestly, it's perfect!!!
This was the most fun thing I have ever been to in my entire life. I get emotional thinking about it. It’s everything I have ever wanted and even soooo much more ! From the moment I stepped inside ford field The hum of the crowd and excitement of everyone walking by cheering for our team made for an incredible atmosphere. The interaction between the announcers and crowd was so fun and so uplifting. The music played for the crowd was very exciting. I absolutely will remember this experience for the rest of my life.
I have been a Lions fan ALL my life and will continue to be FOREVER. The Detroit Lions are my team. Ford Field is always an amazing place to visit. DETROIT LIONS to the SUPERBOWL!
Have been a lifetime Lions fan and being able to experience this was awesome. The crowd was loud and proud. You could feel the stadium shaking at different times throughout the game.

Lions/Rams playoff game- best sporting event I’ve ever been to! Can’t wait to go back!
First playoff game at Ford Field the game and the atmosphere was awesome! I cant rate it a 5 because people around me were vaping and smoking along with a lot of spilled beer allover me. The football game was great and the Lions defense was just good enough to win by 1 point!. Most of the fans were terrific and appreciated the moment in Detroit sports history.
