About

Coldplay is one of the best-loved British rock bands in the world, with numerous tours, top sellers and awards to their name. Formed in 1996, the band's original line-up comprised Chris Martin, the lead vocalist, and Jonny Buckland, the lead guitarist, who met at University College in London. Originally the band was called Pectoralz, which later became Starfish after the bassist, Guy Berryman, joined along with drummer Will Champion, who also plays multiple instruments and provides backing vocals.

The band finally decided on the new name Coldplay in the same year that they recorded and released their first three EPs: Safety, released in 1998, the single “Brothers and Sisters,” released a year later and “The Blue Room,” also released in 1999. This last single was the band's first major label release with Parlophone. Collaborations include recordings with Jay Z, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna, and the band have also said that Travis were a major influence on their early work, along with Muse, Kate Bush, George Harrison and Echo and the Bunnymen. Later influences include Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine.

It was their single “Yellow” released in 2000, that launched the band to instant international acclaim, and their debut album, Parachutes, followed later that year, receiving Mercury Prize nominations. Coldplay's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, released in 2002, also received widespread critical praise and won a range of awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year award from NME. The next album release was X & Y, which was also well received, and the fourth album release was Viva la Vida, or Death and All His Friends in 2008, which earned them a number of wins at the Grammy Awards. Their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto was a chart topper in 34 countries.

The band has also won a large number of awards, including seven Grammys, five MTV Music Awards, and eight BRITs, with over 25 nominations in all. Coldplay have sold over 60 million records across the world and have toured extensively across Europe, the Americas, Australia, Asia and Africa. They also strongly support a range of political and social causes and have performed extensively in charity concerts, including Live 8, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Band Aid 20, Hope for Haiti Now, Sound Relieve and the Secret Policeman's Ball.

    mindblowing!!!

by MC on 10/7/23Rose Bowl - Pasadena

this is not the last coldplay concert i will be attending! i'm a concert junkie myself and i must say this is easily top 3 artists/bands i've ever heard live. constructive criticism though.... let's not do it at the "legendary"rose bowl; their parking system and staff are unprepared and chaotic. other than that, based purely on the band's performance and production, i'd rate it a 10/10. based on venue alone and vendors: 1.5 out of 10.

    by Crash0577 on 10/7/23Rose Bowl - Pasadena

What else can I say but, another great Coldplay concert!! This is the third time seeing them in California, first time ever being at the Rose Bowl. What a stadium, over 100 years old, but still a great venue.

Best concert experience for so many reasons!

    by Daniel D. on 10/7/23

Logistics: Worth every penny to fly from Minnesota to San Diego to see Coldplay in Snapdragon Stadium. Easy in/out using Trolley (light rail). Concert: Simply incredible in all ways - singing, sound, interaction with crowd, bracelets, lights, stage, fireworks, and more. Seen many concerts of many genres dating back to the 80s and Coldplay surpasses all of them. A big difference from any other concert is the positivity and joy of the crowd and the singing, dancing, and smiles as the crowd comprised of people from all over the US and the world all together for at least a few hours of positivity and love — much needed in todays world. Thank you, Chris, Johnny, Will, and Guy for making it happen!

Fun Concert & Got to See Selena Gomez!

by kass on 10/6/23Rose Bowl - Pasadena

Seeing Coldplay was a fun experience! It was a very cool concert overall, especially since I attended on 10/1, when Selena Gomez came out to perform Let Somebody Go. However, the Rose Bowl stadium seats are SO cramped with less leg room than an Economy airline seat & no cupholders. AND, they didn’t even give us the light-up bracelets because they “ran out,” like they have no idea how many tickets they sold? You would think they would have bought enough to have in stock for both shows at the Rose Bowl. So, that was disappointing for me to not have a bracelet. We also left about 2 songs early so we wouldn’t have to wait in a huge line getting out of the parking lot. I would see Coldplay again, if the tickets were cheaper. $250 pp is a lot, & the venue just didn’t meet that price standard.

memorable experience coldplay rock ou of the stadium and full of joy fireworks and production was amazing not to mention the quality of sound. The only thing that I submit is they had only one ticket office available so I had to walk too far to reach the southwest ticket office available to claim my tickets. everything else was amazing !
