About

Coldplay is one of the best-loved British rock bands in the world, with numerous tours, top sellers and awards to their name. Formed in 1996, the band's original line-up comprised Chris Martin, the lead vocalist, and Jonny Buckland, the lead guitarist, who met at University College in London. Originally the band was called Pectoralz, which later became Starfish after the bassist, Guy Berryman, joined along with drummer Will Champion, who also plays multiple instruments and provides backing vocals.

The band finally decided on the new name Coldplay in the same year that they recorded and released their first three EPs: Safety, released in 1998, the single “Brothers and Sisters,” released a year later and “The Blue Room,” also released in 1999. This last single was the band's first major label release with Parlophone. Collaborations include recordings with Jay Z, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna, and the band have also said that Travis were a major influence on their early work, along with Muse, Kate Bush, George Harrison and Echo and the Bunnymen. Later influences include Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine.

It was their single “Yellow” released in 2000, that launched the band to instant international acclaim, and their debut album, Parachutes, followed later that year, receiving Mercury Prize nominations. Coldplay's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, released in 2002, also received widespread critical praise and won a range of awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year award from NME. The next album release was X & Y, which was also well received, and the fourth album release was Viva la Vida, or Death and All His Friends in 2008, which earned them a number of wins at the Grammy Awards. Their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto was a chart topper in 34 countries.

The band has also won a large number of awards, including seven Grammys, five MTV Music Awards, and eight BRITs, with over 25 nominations in all. Coldplay have sold over 60 million records across the world and have toured extensively across Europe, the Americas, Australia, Asia and Africa. They also strongly support a range of political and social causes and have performed extensively in charity concerts, including Live 8, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Band Aid 20, Hope for Haiti Now, Sound Relieve and the Secret Policeman's Ball.

    HEALING RESTORATIVE EMOTIONAL BIUTYFUL

    by MrsLaceyLuArtCreations on 11/7/23

I CALL IT MAGIC! Being able to hear Chris’s timbre, range, and aditional runs before his voice hit the mic was amazing and as a singer gave me chills. I honestly felt a deep sadness in my bones feeling like their music production may be coming to an end and also an acceptance that they deserve to take a break when they need to. I also felt intense joy that I got to be so close and hear Chris’s voice before it hit the mic. It really was a wonderful experience! I understand why they may need a hiatus at some point and in thinking about their lives on a spectrum, They deserve rich lives w their families and loved ones. How selfish we are as onlookers and fans to demand them to keep making music or that they always be perfect. (Overhearing people judging them for seeming tired) They can just make music or produce other bands too. Theres no limit for Coldplay! The show was enthrallingly gorgeous with lights sounds and colorful array of snowy magical confetti of butterflies and stars! We were transported to outerspace with the whole planetary system on display dancing around us! And it was so inspiring to get to be so close I could see the kindness in each members eyes! I only wish I had brought the doll I made of Chris to be signed because it says not toys on the rules for entry! But people bring things anyway! All thats said, I understand why they may need a hiatus at some point and in thinking about their lives on a spectrum, they like any other huamn beings, deserve rich lives with their families and loved ones. How selfish we are as onlookers and fans to demand them to keep making music or that they always perform however we think they should (Overhearing people judging them). They can just make music or produce other bands too. I REALLY ENJOYED their show and I even made plans to see them again abroad in Rome with my wife and I cannot express in words the immense HEALING and restoration on hundreds of accounts their music has given me with my negative ideations and anxiety and ghost stories. It has literally saved me from sadness and depression so many times and given me depth of perspective. It has changed me deeply many times over. Their music has honestly shifted and grown with each phase of my life. Their music isn’t just music to me. THEY ARE NOT JUST SOME BAND. They are truth bearers and preachers of Love and justice and peace and humanitarianism to next levels. I love you for just being you William, and Guy, and Phill, and Johnny and Chris. 🫶🏼😭🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

    Whole fam

    by 204Daisy on 10/30/23Lumen Field - Seattle

First concert we’ve attended as a family and had a great time. My husband and I came with our daughters (18 & 24 years old). What struck me was that the audience around us was so culturally diverse yet we all came together to enjoy singing along to the same music. Cold Play put in a fabulous show as usual. H.E.R. Is amazingly talented. I was not impressed with the first opening act at all. Also I would suggest more merch tables throughout. We were on the third level and had a long walk to get to it. The venue was great, we had no issues getting to our seats or leaving the stadium which surprised me as there were 70k fans. Overall it was one of the more memorable concerts I’ve been to and would highly recommend a Cold Play concert. I loved the production, light bands, fireworks and just the upbeat diverse community vibe. I would suggest letting the audience know that the bins for the light bands are at the stadium doors. Many were being tossed into the regular blue recycling bins.

    Awesome concert

The show was awesome. Lot of energy and effects. Venue was uncomfortable though. Bench seating is tight and there are no backs so my back was sore after.

The Coldplay concert, like past concerts, did not disappoint. It’s such a top notch production. No one does it better. And of course the energy of the band and music is sooo good. The light shows and fireworks just top an already exceptional show! Love this band and music as they are full of Love and share their love and gratitude with every audience member. Highly recommend if you’ve never seen them live to go.

    Great Energy, Awesome Vocals

by Rach on 10/17/23Snapdragon Stadium - San Diego

This was probably the best concert I’ve ever been to. The energy in the stadium was unlike any other gathering and I heard all of my favorite songs. There were light up bracelets that we took on our way in and I felt like I was a part of every song when it lit up multicolors! I love how they moved their stage closer to the back at the end so everyone felt like they had an equal opportunity to see Coldplay up close. So many environmentally friendly practices were in place and the confetti was a nice memorabilia I got to take home with me. Truly fantastic, definitely a must-see show everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
