About

BLOOD ORANGE IN CONCERT:

The stylish sonic palette of musical chameleon and indie impresario Dev Hynes has helped define the sounds of ingenues ranging from Sky Ferreira to Solange Knowles, but nowhere is his wistful retro pop more compelling than his solo work as Blood Orange. Touring with a full band for the first time since the project's inception, Hynes' cuts a mesmerizing figure on stage, punctuating his feathery croon and spindly guitar work with the idiosyncratic dancing seen in the video for recent single "Chamakay".  From the slinky strut of "Sutphin Boulevard" to the sax outro of "Uncle ACE", Blood Orange's lush sound assumes even greater depth and dimension with the addition of live drums and brass, ensuring that Hynes and Co. will deliver their most fully-realized sets yet on their upcoming tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in East London, Dev Hynes was involved in the city's short-lived but bright-burning dance punk outfit Test Icicles before making his solo debut as Lightspeed Champion in 2008. Two albums released under that moniker both fared well in the UK on the strength of their eclectic indie rock sound, but the project's tone was markedly different from the sinuous brand of '80s-inflected R&B Hynes unveiled on Blood Orange's 2011 debut single "Dinner". The project's debut LP Coastal Grooves dropped a few months later, earning praise for its relaxed vibe and minimal, spacious compositions. 2013 sophomore album Cupid Deluxe was an even bigger success, landing Blood Orange on numerous year-end lists and paving the way an extensive tour that features a full backing band.

    Amazing

by angie3227 on 9/30/18The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange was so good live. I listened to his album negro swan only a week before going to this concert. His backup singers are incredible as well as the guy on the sax. I feel like he really made the most of his band and team, everyone was so talented. Truly an experience.

    Good while it lasted

by sebrown000 on 9/30/18The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

Doors at 8, show at 9, one opening band. The whole show was over before 10:15. I spent $80 for two tickets. Very lame.

Dev Hynes, understated & sick talent

by MeestairG on 9/23/18Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

A packed diverse crowd grooved to this neo soul master and his very sharp band and singers. He's as talented as Prince was, IMO just w/o the flamboyance. Did 18 songs straight, dropped the mic and sorry folks, no encore. He writes, sings, plays keyboard, SHREDS on electric guitar, and works with some amazing other musicians. At last year's visit to Oakland his set was frustratingly short, but this time we went away satisfied. I just wish he wasn't so loved by the house, so I could have heard a bit more of the details. Kudos to the sound people for not making the levels painful.

Loved to have the good fortune to see him do a show in a small venue...soon he will be "too big" ie - gain in popularity, to see often in a small setting. Fantastic show

    Disappointingly short set

by Anonymous on 9/27/17Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Love his music. And loved him live. But seemed like his mic was turned down way low. And then about 1 hour 15 minutes in he abruptly ended it. We all thought he was just taking a break. Or would come out for an encore of a few more songs. But nope. Awkward.
